Calling the NV-04 “safe Democrat” is Leftist wishful thinking. Yes, it was drawn to give the Democrats the advantage, and it leans that way, but it’s a winnable district, as we proved in 2014.
I think that Lisa Song Sutton would make a better GE candidate than would Jim Marchant. Yes, he was elected as a state rep in 2016, but before that he was a Florida businessman with ties to Jeb Bush; he didn’t even move to Nevada until he was almost 50 years old (2005). And Sutton has almost as much cash on hand as Marchant, so she’ll be able to fight Horsford on the air (although Horsford has around five times as much cash on hand as either of the two GOP frontrunners). I think that a young, attractive, conservative businesswoman who was Miss Nevada in 2014 (the year in which Horsford lost reelection in NV-04) is exactly the sort of opponent that Horsford fears as he deals. Advertising that remind voters that Horsford cheated on his wife for years with some skanky staffer for Harry Reid would be harder to ignore if the “I approve this message” voice came from a recent Miss Nevada than from a chubby 64-year-old dude.
