Pro tip from Arbery shooters’ attorneys: Let’s not forget the presumption of innocence and due process, please

A wise admonition — and one that might have saved Ahmaud Arbery’s life if Bob Rubin’s and Jason Sheffield’s client had stuck to it in the first place. The two attorneys argued yesterday “there is more to the story” of why Travis and Gregory McMichael tracked down and killed Arbery, and scolded people on their assumption of guilt without hearing the whole truth. “That’s the purpose of a trial,” Rubin intoned at a press conference late yesterday afternoon.

Consider this today’s entry in the Someone Left the Irony On Department, with due hat-tip to MAD Magazine. Be sure to watch all the way to the end to enjoy the easy dunk from the attorney representing the interests of the Arbery family:

Well Bob, that's all good and stuff but it appears the facebook jury has already found them guilty. Besides, no one needs no steenkin' constitution. As Mark Twain once said: "No amount of evidence will ever persuade an idiot." Just in case some of the FB jury needs reminding, racism is a two way street.

To be fair, there’s far too large a segment ready to condemn Arbery before all the evidence/trials. And his life has already been taken, so the due process means little.

I’ll admit it looks open and shut - but then so was the case against Zimmerman.

I mean the trial on Facebook before it actually got to court.

This is now nothing more than a political issue. For better or worse,it should have been handled locally.

If nothing else good comes out of this mess, it should at least result in legal restrictions on the “citizen arrest” concept.

It was handled locally. But eventually the police were sick of a corrupt D.A. impeding them.

At the crime scene, the murderers didn’t claim they were trying to effect a citizen’s arrest. Anyway. what they tried to do is not covered by citizen’s arrest laws.

What's to condemn? He attacked a man with a shotgun and he got shot.

This is what usually happens when you attack a man with a shotgun.

You are right. No way they convict in a fair trial, but since they've made this into a show trial, they will exert every pressure to press for a conviction.

At the crime scene,

You mean the spot where that violent criminal assaulted a man holding a shotgun? Yeah, that's a crime scene. The crime committed there was "assault."

In the end Treyvon Martin, Michael Brown, and now Ahmaud Arbery all died needlessly for the same reason: they all attacked men who had guns.

“To be fair, there’s far too large a segment ready to condemn Arbery before all the evidence/trials.”

And to be more accurate, the preponderance of people are ready to condemn the two whites before all the evidence is made public.

He attacked a man with a shotgun and he got shot.

Is there ever a situation where a man with a gun can lawfully be attacked?

That is as far as I got myself. Someone trying to be extra cute with his nonsense. I was responding to one of the posts. Some people like to remind all of us just how magnanimously objective they are.

Make of it what you will, but the worst case scenario possibilities regarding the incident(that the McMichaels are guilty) is increasing support for the 2nd Amendment among the black community esp in middle class areas.
