Nineteen years ago, a small group of Canadian FReepers set out on a journey to provide Canada with the same sort of political outlet that our American friends have with Free Republic.
We started a Canada Chapter on this site, which we quickly outgrew. Then, we moved to our own site, and called it Free Dominion.
Out of gratitude to Jim Robinson, and our friends on FR, we provided a backup forum for FReepers for when FR experienced technical problems. And, many Free Republic members registered, and regularly logged in to say hi! Several FR stalwarts, like coteblanche, backhoe and B4Ranch, spent hours on Free Dominion, helping us keep our content fresh until we were on our feet. Backhoe was a regular on Free Dominion until he passed away.
We eventually had over 10,000 members, which is very significant in a small market like Canada!
Unfortunately, Free Dominion ran into some difficulties that I can't really talk about without putting myself at risk (you can find other threads here that detail our adventures, though). Ultimately, with great sadness, we had to close our doors in 2016.
Now, however, Canada is in a dangerous place. We are in a lockdown that our Prime Minister is promising will last until there is a vaccine, and he has already taken the opportunity to use his emergency powers to ban some 1,500 weapons! Some of us believe he is moving toward a universal basic income, and that he might attempt to win a majority this Fall.
Canadian conservatives cannot depend on Twitter and Facebook for our communications, so we have relaunched Free Dominion.
I asked Jim Robinson if it was okay to let you all know we are open again, and he was gracious enough to say yes. So, here is our link: https://freedominion.ca.
Although we have lost some of our faithful FReeper friends over the past few years, I hope some of you will drop by and register, maybe have some good conversations as we try to get the ball rolling again, from scratch!
And, as before, if you ever have a need for a place to hang out if FR is down, you will be welcomed with open arms at your sister site in Canada!
It’s great to see so many freepers returning to FD. Free Republic is still our core inspiration.
I just activated your account in case your confirmation email was lost! Thanks for joining!
Great news, Connie! I’ll be stopping by.
Whoa, Free Dominion is back!! Congratulations! :-)
Hey, you could BE that guy if you want to! Hahaha!
Salute
This is REAL Canada. I love so much about the land and its great people. Many great Canadians get the American spirit and Americans get Canada. I was even lucky to meet Canadian Soldiers a few times. We went to Montreal to see the Habs and Flyers play and I will never forget it. My contempt for the white Obama twinkle toes and the idiotic government is what ruins the country.
Just registered, with the same user name. Besides, I almost live in Canada anyway, eh?
Goodluck, Godspeed.
The muzzling of free speech in canada is a crime.
The current castro jr running the show is a disaster, be safe.
I remember finding Free Dominion years ago, and posting there. Great folks. The site later dropped off my radar and I didn’t know it went away. Great news to hear it’s back. I will go there and take a look.
Good luck - I was on Freedominion for years before I signed up for Freerepublic.
All of the ambiance without the dumb government? :-)
Being Canadian, you were duly named the Chilly Wench.
Backhoe, you are missed.
Ahahahahaha!!!! I remember that now! :-D
Congratulations! We need to spread the word all over the world!
We miss backhoe so much! We was like a member of our online family! He wrote pages and pages in tribute to the loves of his life. He was a good man.
Has anyone heard from B4Ranch lately? He was another great friend!
Congrats on your grand reopening!
I'll second that.
