When would an intelligence agency unmask a name?

The request is not automatically granted. The person asking has to have a good reason. Typically, the reason is that not knowing the name makes it impossible to fully understand the intelligence provided.

The name is released only if the official requesting it has a need to know and the "identity is necessary to understand foreign intelligence information or assess its importance," according to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence's latest report, which includes statistics on unmasking. "Additional approval by a designated NSA official is also required."

Former NSA Director Mike Rogers has said that only 20 of his employees could approve an unmasking. The names are shared only with the specific official who asked. They are not released publicly. Leaking a name, or any classified information, is illegal.

NSA Director Mike Rogers speaks at a Heritage Foundation event on Section 702 of FISA on Friday, Oct. 13, 2017 in Washington.

First, the person granting the request should answer that. Then the person who made the request. Then we can compare answers.

Exactly.

The Democrat Party has been royally played by Mr. Putin.

The Dems are the vector that allowed Russia to interfere with the 2016 election and also to intefere with President Trump by trying to take him down.

The Dems are the guilty party, not President Trump.

Its sitting right there now for ALL to see.Hillery Clinton and Obama both took Vladimir Putin’s bait fish, Christopher Steele and his bogus report.Christoper Steele has every indication that he was a double agent, for Britain’s deep state, and for the Russians.

You have to hand it to Putin. He pulled off the greatest intel ploy of the modern era against Obama and Hillary, one that is classic, using their own desperate Utopian ideology against them. He took them good. And the Dem Party has been chasing President Trump ever since. Even without a shred of evidence Putin still has them chasing that Trump camel. Its actually quite hilarious.

I don’t have a clue. They obviously thought they would never ever get caught with the Press defending them.

I have been wondering lately whether or not the Democrats purposely kept the Russian collusion story out in front for more than three years to keep the real culprit, China, protected from scrutiny. Possible??
