The North Carolina Republican is stepping down amid an investigation into stock trades he made as the coronavirus pandemic began

North Carolina Republican Sen. Richard Burr on Thursday announced that he would be stepping down as the chairman of the Senate Intelligence committee. His resignation from the post comes as the FBI investigation into stock market trades he made at the outset of the coronavirus pandemic ramping up.

"Senator Burr contacted me this morning to inform me of his decision to step aside as Chairman of the Intelligence Committee during the pendency of the investigation. We agreed that this decision would be in the best interests of the committee and will be effective at the end of the day tomorrow," said Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

On Wednesday, Senator Burr surrendered his cell phone to FBI agents who served a warrant at the senator's D.C. area residence.

Burr's trading actions are under investigation after he sold a significant percentage of his portfolio on February 13, as his committee received daily coronavirus briefings containing not-yet-public information. The trades took place several weeks before the market tanked.

Who will replace him? Likely Rubio? Please let it be Cotton!

Cotton would be so far superior to Rubio that it’s tough to mention them in the same sentence. What’s the closest we have to a “bomb thrower” in the Senate?

If they get him removed from the Senate then a Dem takes his place right?

Why isn’t Feinstein having her cellphone taken?

I bet he will pay a hefty fine and serve some jail time. Not. He is not one of the little people like us.

Now perhaps the Senate Intelligence Committee will be chaired by an ACTUAL Republican.

Up to now, it has pretty much be run by Mark Warner, D-Virginia.

NOT a comfortable position.

I’ve just been told, by a higher authority in my household, that the NC constitution requires the governor to name a senator of the same party as the one removed. Gets a list of 3 from the GOP state chairman and must pick one.

In that case, kick Burr’s sorry ass out. He’s been a disgrace.

She was questioned. She put her stuff in a trust. Why this guy doesn’t is beyond me. He’s not very smart.

That's the goal.

IF Feinstein were removed she'll be replaced by another Leftie so no loss there.

If Barr goes, that's a pickup for the dims.

From what I understand the Governor has to appoint a Republican to replace a Republican. But I’m sure he can find many false Republicans to choose from.

Hopefully, Burr stays till we put a Republican governor in.

"Watch turtle put romney in there."

He doesn't have any seniority. He's only in his first term.
