Accused Ahmaud Arbery gunman called cops 12 days before fatal shooting

The Georgia man charged with murdering unarmed black jogger Ahmaud Arbery called cops less than two weeks before the fatal shooting to report a man breaking into a nearby home under construction, according to a report.

Travis McMichael, 34, called 911 on Feb. 11 to report a break-in at a construction site just two houses away from his home in Brunswick, according to audio obtained by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

“We’ve had a string of burglaries,” McMichael told a dispatcher. “I was leaving the neighborhood and I just caught a guy running into a house being built – two houses down from me. When I turned around, he took off running into the house.”

As determined by survey data, most personal property crimes are never reported. Dealing with the police as a crime victim is often a disappointing, time-wasting hassle.

Unarmed black jogger? Boy are they laying the propaganda on thick. The left picks the worst people to hold up as their heroes.

Zimmerman did not "initiate contact." Zimmerman was a property owner in the complex, which gave him an ownership interest in the common areas that Trayvon Martin was walking through while apparently casing the complex. In essence, Zimmerman was legally in the right and had a valid basis for regarding Martin with suspicion. Yet Zimmerman did not call to or stop Martin.

On the other hand, Trayvon Martin, a troubled teen who was drifting into the gangsta life, took Zimmerman's continued observation of him as justifying a sudden and severe attack on Zimmerman. Martin quickly put Zimmerman on the ground, pummelling his face MMA style, and slamming Zimmerman's head onto the concrete sidewalk. This put Zimmerman in fear of his life.

If Zimmerman had not been armed, he would have suffered a severe, potentially life-altering or lethal beating. In effect, Zimmerman did what many here insist the McMasters should have done, follow, observe, and call the cops.

Zimmerman initiated contact with Martin.

Property crimes, especially break-ins, are reported to the police for insurance reasons if nothing else.

There are plenty of conservatives saying mcmichaels shoulda taken his beat down and let the innocent jogger have his gun.

You can have burglaries and them not be reported. Matter of fact a back pocket on tshirt is more useful than calling the cops after a burglary if you dont have the perp detained.

Any proof of that?

Zimmerman did not call out to or attempt to stop Martin. Perhaps what you mean is that Zimmerman acted provocatively and dissed Martin by noticing him casing the homes of Zimmerman’s neighbors, calling the cops, and then following to see what Martin was up to.

That depends on the property owner’s calculation of whether, after the deductible, filing a police report and an insurance claim are enough when measured against the hassle of dealing with the cops and the risks of an insurance rate increase or cancellation. Homicides are regarded as virtually the only crime for which the reported rate closely tracks the actual rate.

Probably pretty rarely. What’s a normal deductible these days? Probably somewhere approaching grand theft levels. People in Atlanta leave their car doors unlocked because they’d rather have some petty item they forgot about stolen rather than a smashed window and dealing with the insurance co & police. I had a Leatherman stolen out of my car in my driveway years ago. Not cheap, but I didn’t report it. Same night it happened to neighbors, but we all talked about it.

I mean he followed Martin around the complex, initiating their encounter.

So, if Zimmerman “initiated” the encounter, what do you call it when Martin ambushed Zimmerman, knocked him to the ground, knelt on his chest and beat his face and broke his nose, and slammed his head on the sidewalk? Saying that Zimmerman initiated this encounter makes it seem as if Martin was passive and Zimmerman at fault in getting attacked and badly beat up.

I'm amused by the sockpuppets parroting the MSM line "only one burglary awwk only one burglary" ... in a thread precisely dedicated to an article which plainly states on its face that there was a trespass/b&e that the police didn't bother to respond to.

So how many other trespass/b&e did the police ignore?

The answer is in English's camera recordings, and if McM's attorneys have any sense they have already moved in court to secure same.

McM's lawyers already have a woke witness list, that much is certain:

"Up to four of McMichael’s neighbors were already searching for the suspect, McMichael said. One of them, Diego Perez, said he armed himself before leaving his home to search for the man, as did McMichael’s 64-year-old father, Gregory McMichael, Perez told the newspaper."

"If he did share the video, that would be significant, and there will be evidence of that."

Well, gawrsh, look at that, there was another link within the same NYPost story....

" "Diego Perez said the owner of the construction site, Larry English, texted him a security video on Feb. 11 and told him someone was trespassing on the property. He asked Perez to check it out — which he did after arming himself, the outlet reported. Perez said the trespasser had been seen at the site in security videos months earlier."

That cross-examination ought to be a hoot.

'now, Mr. Perez, when Mr. English texted you the video of the trespasser on his property, did he ask you to go over there?'

'Yup.'

'Did you share that video with the McMichael's and the other trespass videos too?'

'Yup.'

'Did you recognize the trespasser? Was it the same person in the other trespass videos? Was it the deceased?'

'Yup.'

"Zimmerman did not call out to or attempt to stop Martin."

And yet, Zimmerman shot and killed Trayvon, and the jury -- composed of similar Southerners just 200 miles away from Brunswick -- acquitted George of Murder 2 after just one day of deliberations. Hmmmm...

Zimmerman was sitting in his vehicle observing TM.
He was on the phone with the civilian police dispatcher.
Dispatcher: OK, he's just walking around the area...
Zimmerman: ...looking at all the houses.
Dispatcher: OK...
Zimmerman: Now he's just staring at me.
Dispatcher: OK--you said it's 1111 Retreat View? Or 111?
Zimmerman: That's the clubhouse...
Dispatcher: That's the clubhouse, do you know what the--he's near the clubhouse right now?
Zimmerman: Yeah, now he's coming towards me.

Zimmerman: Somethings wrong with him. Yup, he's coming to check me out, he's got something in his hands, I don't know what his deal is.
Dispatcher: Just let me know if he does anything ok
...
GZ:Shit he's running.
Dispatcher: He's running? Which way is he running?
Zimmerman: Down towards the other entrance to the neighborhood.
Dispatcher: Which entrance is that that he's heading towards?
Zimmerman: The back entrance...fucking [unintelligible]
Dispatcher: Are you following him?
Zimmerman: Yeah
Dispatcher: Ok, we don't need you to do that.
Zimmerman: Ok

The dispatcher had asked GZ to let him know if TM did anything
....TM started to run....
Followed by asking GZ which way TM went.
GZ in an effort to comply had got out of his car
and attempted keep TM in sight so he could let the dispatch know.
In the audio you can hear the sound of air over the mic of the phone as GZ was moving quickly.
The dispatch likely heard it as well when he asked GZ if he was following TM.
GZ said 'yeah' and the Dispatch said, 'Ok, we don't need you to do that'.
GZ said 'ok' and you can hear him slow down and stop indicated by the lessening and cessation the wind sound over the phone mic.

GZ at this point was at the 'T' looking down the walkway between the rows of townhouses... Just above the 'F' in the photo.
The Dispatcher asks: What address are you parked in front of?
Zimmerman: I don't know, it's a cut through so I don't know the address.
Dispatcher: Okay do you live in the area?
Zimmerman: Yeah, I...[unintelligible]
Dispatcher: What's your apartment number?
Zimmerman: It's a home it's 1950, oh crap I don't want to give it all out, I don't know where this kid is.

Saying GZ 'followed TM around the complex' is over-stating the case.
GZ had lost sight of TM and didn't know where TM was or where he had gone.
GZ remained on the phone with the dispatcher.
You can see GZ's position marked on the photo as the phone call ended.
He was on his was back to his truck when Martin reappears on the cut-through between the town-houses, confronts and assaults GZ.
