It likely takes a lot of main justice approvals to serve a search warrant for the device of the Chairman of the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence (SSCI). The Chairman of the powerful committee also sits on the congressional oversight team known as the gang-of-eight.
According to the Los Angeles Times the FBI served a search warrant on North Carolina Republican Senator Richard Burr Wednesday. The warrant appears connected to an ongoing investigation on whether or not Burr violated a law that prevents members of Congress from trading insider information they learn from their work. According to the report federal agents seized Burrs cell phone after they served the warrant at his residence in the Washington DC area.
The sketchy guardian of swamp secrets is retiring at the end of this year so hes probably just willing to wait out the investigation and negotiate with the DC justice-tier to pay a fine and move on. DC has a totally different set of laws and outcomes than everywhere else. The fine and any resulting legal expenses will likely be paid by a lobbying firm or political interest group who previously contracted with, and received benefit from, Senator Burr.
Its the way of the swamp.
He's up for election this November.
So, burr is a sacrificial lamb
But it doesn’t make any sense. McGee at NCIS can easily get a listing of all cell phone data with out the actual phone. It would seem the FBI knows all about all the calls without the actual phone.
“Set the table?” Pul-eeeze.
They seach Burr after 2 months, meanwhile 3 years into Russia-gate... Nothing.
This is not 24D chess. This is the corrupt FBI firing a shot across the bow of the pubs.
Burr and Tillis are both vomitous liberal scumbags.
What is it with the North Carolina GOP sending so many RINO’s to Washington?
NC went into swift decline when Senator Helms retired.
No, Burr is up on 2022.
If he resigns, the Governor, a Democrat has to appoint a Republican to replace him.
The Dems in NC have taken to running one of their own as a Rep. A couple of years ago there were 2 Reps and one Dem on the ballot for some judgeship. They managed to successfully split the R vote. I am not sure how this was allowed, but it worked and I expect to see more of it in the future.
Really?
Burr was first elected to the United States Senate in 2004. Since 2015, Burr has served as the Chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee. In 2016, he announced that he would not be seeking reelection in 2022.
Apology accepted.

Burr is a dickhead, but..So when do Loeffler and Feinstein get their body cavity search?
The obvious reason nothing ever happens is because “our” party is not really our party. The GOP is just facade.
LOL. Funny but probably not far from reality. There are some very strange creatures on the Hill.
What??? No SWAT team with an early morning raid while CNN just happens to be there???
I get your point about Loeffler but in government there is generally an obligation to avoid the appearance of a conflict of interest because it can be perceived as impartiality, if not worse.
The whole COI thing gets quite complicated among the three branches of government, but with respect to Loeffler she evidently was not the least bit concerned about the appearance of COI.
I have personally recused myself from situations that had even a remote potential to call into question my impartiality.
Remove him from chair of the SSCI NOW!!!
Tillis is up this year and will likely get beat by the 'rat running against him.
In 2022 the other pseudo-repub, Burr(not Aaron) will likely cause a 'rat to win.
We have two loser repub Senators.
Better than a 'rat? Grudgingly yes. Just keep expectations low.
I do respect your stand and your actions.
However, anyone who is willing to pay can buy information regarding any number of world events, including military information. Unless they can prove that Burr or anyone else acted only on information they got through secure government channels they must presume they are innocent. Just because you are serving in congress that does not mean you are obligated to neglect your own interests. Now, Burr was and is an idiot, and a fool for thinking his actions would not draw scrutiny. I lost respect for him a long time ago —BUT—he is entitled to presumed innocence. This is the FBI going after the Republican senate, and probably a warning to others.

She wasn't concerned about COI because she said she had no part in managing her portfolio. If 99 other Senators made this statement it would be considered to be laughable. In her case, being an appointee and not a professional politician, it's at least possible.
