Well over half of all documented coronavirus deaths in the United States have occurred in just five states, a statistic which mirrors the heavily concentrated and localized nature of COVID-19 outbreaks in several other countries.
Of the nearly 80,000 deaths from the virus in this country as of Saturday afternoon, nearly 48,700, or about 60 percent, had occurred in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Michigan and Pennsylvania.
New York remains the hardest-hit state of any in the country by far, having logged nearly 27,000 deaths as of Saturday afternoon. The next-hardest-hit state, New Jersey, had recorded over 9,100.
Decades ago the right wing L. Brooks Patterson of Blessed Memory said "We ought to build a wall along Eight Mile Road, a physical wall. Keep the crime in the City of Detroit if they want it but stay out of Oakland County."
The new idea of a wall was shocking to the liberal press and grandstanding pols then. Crime fighting was called "racist."
Then the remaining non persons of color in Detroit moved out in the record "white flight" recorded in the US. Over 82% non-white Detroit population most years after then. If these liberals weren't hypocrites they would have stayed inside Detroit and suffered to promote their causes. No way. Wealth shifted to the suburbs.
All the expense of moving, building new water and sewer and electric lines and landline phone lines plus stores and so on, all to escape Detroit.
astonshing....I would love to know how many people died of strokes or heart attacks or cancer in all of this in NYS....
Remember, the vast majority of deaths in NY are from NYC - Upstate the numbers are like North Dakota.
