Psychology, conflicting rules, misinformation and anxiety fueling bad behavior and violence, experts say
As a culture war rages across the nation over whether to wear protective masks, closer to home the battle is spilling over into store aisles and shopping center parking lots with alarming frequency and at times violent consequences.
Los Angeles police this week announced the arrest of two brothers who allegedly assaulted store employees and a security guard who attempted to escort them from a Target in Van Nuys for refusing to wear masks. ...

Hamilton Mill is a large golf/tennis/swim community north of Atlanta where many higher income attorneys, architects and tv personalities live.
I don’t have a personal beef with them but they do have some “Karens” of both sexes who like to get into other people’s business on Nextdoor.com and Facebook.
You’ve already been exposed to it. It would be impossible for you not to have by now. You don’t immediately bleed from the eyes on contact, contrary to the gaslighting the media has done to you.
It’s reasonable to believe that coughing while being sick will spread a virus all over the place. It’s why people in Asia often wear masks as part of daily protocol.
Why do doctors, dentists, nurses, etc. wear masks? To say that they don’t work, as a blanket statement, is just untrue.
Have you been wearing a mask for the past several years? If not why not?
The Wuhan virus is much smaller than other viruses making your beloved masks much less efficient.

I fail to see how wanting to protect peoples lives is “virtue signalling”. I would think any sane person would be against people dying unnecessarily.
The functioning of masks is not a medical issue. The interactions of particle formation, collecting, and analyzing are CHEMICAL issues, and I happen to be a PhD chemist with direct experience in all the related facets of the technology.
On these threads, I have ONE aim...to see that the best possible scientific information is laid out.
And frankly, I was completely shocked at the level of ignorance of the relevant science displayed.
Answer me this simple question...WHY in your mind, are masks and the wearing of same so horrible?
If you want to STOP all those things, and open things up SAFELY, then wearing a mask is one of the biggest things that needs to be done.
It is cheap, easily accessible to everybody, and WORKS.
You are in a very tiny minority. For the vast majority of people (probably >99+%) don't have the problem.
Oh, and Geaux Tigers!
“i made one for myself with a wide permanent marker, writing”
I’m trying to find my fabric sheets for inkjet printer to make one. I have to wear one to the doctor’s on Monday. I think I’ll go with, “UNDER DURESS”, or similar. I’ve made several masks for elderly friends and family, and found a pattern that has plenty of space for a facial bumper sticker.
” I have one I made especially for myself, of cheesecloth,”
For my husband’s birthday, my sister made a gag mask for him — of fishnet stocking material.

I expect this mask-wearing fad will fade quickly as the temperatures rise into the 80s, 90s and 100s across the country. Wearing a mask, breathing stale air and hiding your face — your very identity — in public will get very old very quickly in the heat.
Sounds like fun. Or we could all put on Burkhas and claim we’re cross-dressers. Rock the virtue signalling.
“Wearing a mask, breathing stale air”
And it seems logical that IF there are cooties in the air you walk through, they’ll get stuck in your mask, and thrive in the warm humidity. Then you either breathe them in through the pitiful cloth (but cute) mask, and/or when you do breathe, it’ll push the cooties up into your eyes which also are vulnerable.
Not after I’ve worn one a few dozen times, it doesn’t. Mine cost me 65 shekels, just shy of 20 dollars. Nothing else available. I’ll wear it ‘til the ear loops fall off.
I’ve been all over Asia, China, Korea, Japan, etc. - it’s not an air quality issue.
I find the lack of caution disturbing. It’s not much to ask and you, along with everyone else, have absolutely no idea of what the effectiveness is or is not. Your willingness to be reckless is foolish.
Yes, the bare virus particle is very tiny, but that is not the controlling factor in mask effectiveness. What you have to remember is that the virus particle exists in aquous body fluids along with many other species. A “bare” virus particle is NEVER emitted by a human or other host....it is ALWAYS accompanied by “other things”, like some or other concentration of salt water. By far the largest source of ejected virus is saliva in a cough, sneeze, or breath.
“Saliva is composed of a variety of electrolytes, including sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, bicarbonate, and phosphates. Also found in saliva are immunoglobulins, proteins, enzymes, mucins, and nitrogenous products, such as urea and ammonia.”

It is these heterogeneous drops that the mask is blocking, not a “bare” virus particle.
Let me set your ignorant straw-man on fire to disinfect it.
They wear masks and gloves and change them between each patient.
Wearing the same mask for days on end without gloves and following a strict sanitation protocol is useless. It does not work. In fact actually detrimental.
But you go on wearing your little virtue signal.
How else will everyone know how pure and holy you are?
No, I’ve worn masks for short periods on maybe 5 different days in the last 10 years prior to Coronavirus due to allergies.
I have thought about wearing them during flu season as I get older. But haven’t.
