They might grow legs.
No, I'm saying a reasonable person might question why the case of the mysterious visitor to a construction site on Saltilla Drive wasn't 'solved' a long time ago, given the evidence that was available and players involved.
Makes you wonder exactly what kind of experience a police "investigator" is required to have in Glynn County GA, doesn't it?
This isn't difficult. Firstly it wasn't "they" who killed him, it was Travis McMichael who killed him, and he killed him because Arbery assaulted him and attempted to seize the shotgun away from him.
They were interested in Arbery because they thought he went into that house to burglarize it. I don't know if they were aware if he had a hammer or not, but they probably saw it when he dropped it on the road as he was running towards them.
Quite frankly the two of them are dumb.
It is dumb to concern yourself about your neighbor's property being stolen. It is dumb to take it upon yourself to try and stop a theft of another man's property. It is especially dumb to confront a thief if he is black and you are white because it has a great risk of turning into an incident.
It is much safer and smarter to hide under your blanket and let some savior rescue you from all the bad people out there, but Gregory McMichaels had been a law enforcement officer for 35 years, and for him it probably felt normal and proper to pursue a criminal suspect.
"Dumb", "Brave", sometimes they are the same thing.
Bingo.
Now that you've brought this item into the discussion, do you suppose it will be admitted into evidence as a possible motive for the McMichaels' actions?
Pretty sure they use both, depending on what job they are doing. For roofing, nail guns. For framing, sometimes nail guns, sometimes not.
There were plenty of people on this site who thought Zimmerman was the aggressor, and there were plenty of people who thought Wilson was just another jack-booted thug shooting down an innocent civilian. I bought some are posting on here right now.
Get stolen? No, people only walk through homes under construction out of innocent curiosity. I read that right here.
‘It is my understanding that Gregory McMichaels is the neighbor who called the police’
the article explicitly states that your understanding is not correct...
*bet
I get that. And to some extent I wouldn't disagree.
But the current "discussion" is an attempt to find out the "truth". Was he a burglar? Did he attack someone who was holding a gun? Was the shooting completely gratuitous? Golly, let's explore and find out "what really happened".
My point is that is never matters. The media still wants to believe that Trayvon Martin was murdered by a racist. The media still wants to believe that Michael Brown was murdered by a cop.
The goal is to make a blanket judgement about groups -- all young black men are innocent and all white men are racist. Pick a news event and twist it until you can tell that story of the bad white men and the evil thing they did.
Exploring it and finding out "what really happened" doesn't get you very far. At least in the national media.
I say it should be kept at a level of several people having an encounter and somebody did something stupid. It has no greater meaning than that. Take it to a court room and quietly find out which person did the stupid thing.
I don't need to see a national discussion about "race" based on this incident -- because I already know the outcome of that discussion.
People keep saying it because you can see the boots in the video. Generally not worn for jogging.People keep saying it because they are looking at a blurry, pixelated screen capture.
You can see his shoes here: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=643887479802708
And his footware is irrelevant to the issue.
Multiple reasons.
To some, it was presented as two racist rednecks murdering an innocent jogger in cold blood, and any reasonable person would find that highly objectionable and want swift justice to be visited on the perpetrators.
To others, a violent criminal attacked a man trying to hold him until police arrived and he was killed in the struggle over the shotgun. People think the idea of punishing a man for shooting a violent criminal in self defense is insane and wrong headed.
To others still, the idea of pursuing a possibly armed thief and attempting to subdue him is too close to "vigilantism" which they find highly objectionable. It reminds them of the previous eras when Lynching occurred.
And finally, some people think the men were stupid and caused themselves trouble by taking action against a criminal, and because they got themselves into a mess, they deserve what they are going to get.
‘Are you suggesting criminals should just be allowed to “got away”?’
they didn’t know that he’d committed any crimes, now did they...?
I have no idea exactly by whom, but I'm inclined to consider it media spin, like other cases we've seen before. Same media, different case however.
Media bullshit is worthless when the case goes to trial, though, as is discussion of it here and elsewhere in cyberspace. Frankly.
Your analysis misses a major point.
Once that hammer shows up Arbery's status changes from "jogger" to "escaping armed criminal". A hammer is a formidable weapon. Lethal against anything short of a projectile weapon.
Plus if he has discarded the hammer, what even more potent weapon has he retained?
It validates the decision to bring weapons in the first place, and justifies carrying the shotgun out of the truck.
I think those professional framing hammers can be in the vincinity of $100.00, but the cost of the hammer isn't really that significant. It likely wasn't his hammer unless he normally carries a hammer when he "jogs."
Even a $5 hammer can kill you if someone hits you with it.
Go spend a few minutes at a construction site someday. Every single carpenter with a nail gun also has a hammer on his belt. The gun does not always drive the nail completely.
"Cornered"? Did you see the video? He could have run in any direction other than towards the men with guns. He did in fact run behind houses the first time they tried to talk to him.
Cornered? Doesn't apply.
RE: A hammer is a formidable weapon. Lethal against anything short of a projectile weapon.
You still don’t shoot to kill a person with the hammer (assuming he was holding it while running), unless he is throwing the hammer at you ( and we don’t know that ), tailing him BY CAR while using your cell phone to call the cops is still the right option.
