Mitt Romney slams the US's coronavirus-testing record as 'nothing to celebrate whatsoever'
business insider ^ | 5/12/2020 | Eliza Relman

Sen. Mitt Romney, the Utah Republican, forcefully criticized the Trump administration's response to the coronavirus during a Tuesday Senate hearing and accused a Health and Human Services official of misleading the public about the US's record with testing for the virus.

Romney pointed to Adm. Brett Giroir's statement — which reflects those made by President Donald Trump — that the US has tested twice the number of people per capita than South Korea has.

But the assertion that the US's testing abilities are more robust than South Korea's makes no sense, given that the Asian nation ramped up testing far earlier than the US did and has had a much more controlled outbreak. On May 11, the US reported 18,090 new infections, while South Korea reported just 27.

"I understand the politicians are going to frame data in a way that's most positive politically. Of course, I don't expect that from admirals," Romney told Giroir. "But yesterday you celebrated that we had done more tests and more tests per capita even in South Korea."

Romney went on to say that the US population is six times as large as South Korea's and yet the US has had about 300 times as many coronavirus deaths as the Asian country.

"I find our testing record nothing to celebrate whatsoever," he said. "The fact is, their testing is going down, down, down, down now ... ours our going up, up, up as they have to."

If only Romney had beat Obama in 2012. He's an expert at this. Remember Romney-care?

“’I find our testing record nothing to celebrate whatsoever,’ he said.”

Neither do I - you’re still alive, after all.

Romney’s approach to Trump being President, “If you don’t have something bad to say, don’t say anything”.

Poor Mitt, maybe he should get a big L tattoo on his forehead if he wants attention.

The thing about Romney is he only stabs his own in the back. Nobody likes a Judas.

Ah, the Wit and Wisdom of Shit Romney.

It’ll be a nice day when he joins John McCain in hell.

Yep, it’s Mitt “Judas” Romney, bending over backwards to show he’s not afraid to be critical of the Trump administration.

I wonder if backstabbers such as Romney ever realize, that he was celebrated for a day on MSNBC after the impeachment conviction vote, then they go back to hating him the next day.

You can’t appease the liberals and the media, no matter how hard to try, or how much you say you had sleepless nights agonizing over how to vote on impeachment or any other issue.

Its amazing how much praise and admiration those two got the MSM, until they ran against Obama.

Romney's working hard for Brownie points

If Mitt was really upset about early testing he should have questioned lifetimers Redfield and Fauci about that.

But he didn’t do that. He left those two establishment hacks alone.

Instead he goes after the newcomers, Girior and Trump who had absolutely nothing to do with the pathetic lack of preparedness for testing by the longtime establishment bureaucrats, Redfield and Fauci.

Ya Mitt, tell us how you would have ensured all the “test kits” were up to speed when the virus first broke.

Mitt shooting off his mendacious mouth is one thing. But what is wrong with the individuals who bust their fannys to plaster everything he utters on FR. Is their life so mundane and bereft of meaning as to cause them to hang onto Mitt’s yammerings, and hurry to get them up on FR? And could it be an indication of how little respect they have for FR?

Romney's thinking that HE would be doing a better job than Trump now, if only enough Republicans had voted for him in 2012.

I agree that government screwed this up. I would not point the finger at Trump so much as Obama and the Blue States that did not prepare.
