Many, many people saying he should have been tased instead. But that doesn’t always work, especially on chunky dudes like this, or if the electrode fail to penetrate baggy clothes (like his perhaps). And if the taser fails, you are faced with a guy coming towards you thrusting a knife towards your chest, while you attempt to switch weapons to stop him. Not a desired scenario. And this guy remained outside the taser’s range until he made his fatal move.
Other thing is that there is a certain proportion of the population that a Taser does *nothing* to. There’s video of people getting hit cleanly, the Taser discharging... and nothing happens, the target pulls the shock module out and continues on.

Tasing really is only viable in this kind of situation if there’s at least two officers - one with the Taser and one with a pistol in case the Taser doesn’t work.
Bring a taser to a knife fight? No thanks, maybe the monday morning quarterbacks can do that. I’ll take the Glock for 100, Alex.
