Ten cruise ships converging on South Africa

There;s a story here, yet to be told.

I see 10 cruise ships with destinations of South Africa. What do you make of that ? Nothing in the news. These are Carnival owned vessels. Two arriving as I write.

Do you KNOW that their destination is South Africa or could they be going around the cape to destinations further west?

All ten of the ships have destinations listed on cruise mapper of either Capetown, Port Elizabeth, or Durban. I suspect this is an automated pull from some maritime registry.

I thought at first, maybe supplies, but you don’t fuel ten ships for supplies.

Probably beds for sick or cabins for medical staff. Could be the crime and riots are out of hand on shore so medical staff needs safe ships to sleep on or work from.

South Africa is one of the few disembarkation ports of repatriating crewmembers from cruise ships. There’s no western hemisphere or European ports right now accepting them. There’s dozens of cruise ships sitting in the caribbean right now where no crew are allowed ashore except on privately owned islands.

Maybe they are going to take on “refugees” (including lots of military age males) ten for each cabin.

Think of what possible place those ten shiploads of “migrants” could reach and disembark.

Just kidding.

I hope.

But you move the crew from ten ships to maybe two ships and they go to South Africa. Taking all ten ships and the fuel is different I predict.

Carnival Cruise ships to take crew home
May 3, 2020 News784
(CRUISE INDUSTRY) – Some 18 Carnival Cruise Line (CCL) ships were due to meet in The Bahamas over the coming days.
This move forms part of final plans currently underway to use nine ships to repatriate more than 10,000 crew members.
They have remained on board the 18 ships, due to restrictions limiting air travel to Asia, Africa, Europe, India and Latin America.
The ships have visited their various US homeports taking on supplies and bunker fuel for their journeys, CCL said.
Some of the crew will join the ships using water shuttles off the The Bahamas coast. Once the transfer is completed, the nine ships will sail with North American-based ships crew members on board.

They’re moving into winter there which,I’m told,is the best time to visit the game parks. That could be a reason.
