In a crowded field, it should have been easy for her to prepare and diffuse, either becoming a Sanders lite, or a younger, darker, prettier, sharper Joe Biden, reassuring old line, mopneyed, and pagmatist Dems. Ride either of those plausibly, and you have place or show in the earlier primaries, and a huge pile of delegates from California. She remained a cipher with the wind at her back (at first).
