Political parties look at a district. They analyze who the voters are and what their concerns are.
They then do a job search looking for a candidate that fits the profile. It does not matter if the candidate believes in what they say while campaigning, they only need to sound like they do.
They don’t need to be smart (actually it is a handicap if they can think for themselves) their only role is to get elected, to vote how they are told to vote and to say what they are told to say.
Lorena Gonzalez, a woman of color and Hispanic, is what her district wants and that is all they get.

I had one foot out the door when the lockdowns all happened, completely screwing up my move. I can’t drive across the rockies in winter, and I haven’t picked a state to move to yet, let alone a city, so this lockdown really killed my ability to scout out retirement cities in the southeast where I want to live. I am going to be royally pissed if this thing delays my move another year.
