It can be hard to recall, since so many members of President Trumps inner circle have been indicted, convicted of federal crimes and sent to prison, but the first felon to emerge from this administration was Michael Flynn.
Flynn, who served as national security adviser before resigning in disgrace, pleaded guilty to lying to FBI investigators.
At the time, Trump said, I had to fire General Flynn because he lied to the vice president and the FBI.
Flynn did lie, as he admitted to under oath in a court of law twice. He told investigators, falsely, that he had not communicated with Sergey Kislyak, the Russian ambassador to the US even before Mr. Trump took office.
Last year Flynn asked the federal judge to throw out his conviction because prosecutors and FBI agents on his case engaged in misconduct. The judge rejected his request, finding the agents had not entrapped Flynn. A report by the Justice Departments inspector general found the bureau had sufficient evidence to investigate Flynn as part of its inquiry into the Trump campaigns ties to Russia.
Yet on Thursday, the Justice Department, under Attorney General William Barr, suddenly dropped all criminal charges against Flynn. Barr is now saying he cannot prove charges to which Flynn has twice pleaded guilty in court and for which there is ample evidence.
Its hard to overstate how dangerous this is. It'is a small step from using the Justice Department to protect your friends to using it to go after your political enemies. In other words, watch out, Joe Biden.
It is entirely in character for Mr. Trump, who lavishes praise on dictators around the world. He is now emulating them, using the Justice Department to protect his friends. As long as Barr leads the Justice Department, he can.

Dont Forget, Michael Flynn Pleaded Guilty. Twice.
The author has no concept of the art of plea barganing, especially against a massively powerful organization that makes it clear they are taking you down one way or another, regardless of what you actually did.
The guilty pleas have been exposed for what they are. That’s the whole point here, and why Flynn should retire a very rich man.
Because Mueller's prosecutors had not turned over any of the exculpatory evidence to the court or the defense, as had been previously ordered.
He had transgressed "The Unwritten Law".
Check out Obama and General Cartwright. Double standards abound.

Once upon a time, I was invited to the White House for a private dinner with President Obama. I am a respected businessman, with a factory that produces memory chips for computers and portable electronics. There was some talk that my industry was being scrutinized by the administration, but I paid it no mind. I live in a free country. There’s nothing that the government can do to me, if I’ve broken no laws. My wealth was earned honestly and an invitation to dinner with an American President is an honor.
I checked my coat, .....................................
“...certain longstanding values.”
These idiotorial punks... aren’t they the kind of folk that approve of doxxing people that disagree with them?
Where do they live? (Ya know, so we can cruise by like people do on those Beverly Hills tours of the rich and famous. The commie elitists would love the attention, right?)
Don’t forget:
Obama Pardons James Cartwright, General Who Lied to F.B.I. in Leak Case
At least the Clintons don’t cause pandemics on a regular basis.
And don’t forget, Hillary, et. al., didn’t have to enter pleas because James Comey, Eric Holder & Loretta Lynch didn’t think they should be charged or prosecuted for the long list of crimes them commmitted.
IOW, the rag’s editorial board would just throw their kids, if they have any, to the wolves.
Your kids are expendable.
Got it.
Had the Obama FBI used the same tactics to entrap any ordinary citizen the NYT would be throwing a tantrum.
But, hey! Using Mafia type tactics against a Republican who can tell you where the bodies are buried is OK!!!!
I truly hope Obama and his corrupt cronies crash and burn in the next few months.
Hanging is too good.
As any trained and experienced lawyer or judge knows a plea agreement is negotiated between prosecutors and defendants to save courts and plaintiffs the cost of a trial. It does not mean that the plaintiff believes or admits that they are guilty of a charge but they are willing to forgo testing the truth in a trial. In Gen. Flynn’s case the price was losing his house, his life savings, and having his son prosecuted for a crime that was later thrown out of court as bogus.
Ask the five innocent black men that were coerced into guilty pleas in the Central Park jogger case how the system works. The New York Time editorial board writers are despicable partisan frauds that have been undermining this country for over a century.
Did you write the first part of your reply, or did you copy it from somewhere?
If so, I would appreciate a link to the source.
I truly hope that Flynn and the others go after these creeps. Destroy them publicly, but more importantly, make them pay with all of their life savings, including their government pension plans.
Pleading guilty after being railroaded under false pretenses doesn’t mean squat.
DOJ ....97% never go to trail....they over charge you and then say if you plead guilty to one charge you will get such and such....
FBI is famous for you lied and entraptment..
Read Gerry Spence.. Police State...
Only the very rich can fight in court..the rest of us it is do not get in trouble..
Wonder how long it will take, and how many times they will plead?
Fixed!
Bankrupt, hell! Firing squads or nooses.
