US SOF troops and Kurdish fighters take down ISIS cell leader (Syria)

U.S. Special Operation Forces led a Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) operation against an Islamic State cell in Syria in response to increased ISIS attacks in the region. The combined operation resulted in the capturing of an ISIS leader responsible for the recent attacks in the Deir el-Zour countryside.

Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR), the U.S.-led coalition in Syria and Iraq, released a statement by spokesman Colonel Myles Caggins on Thursday highlighting the mission’s success and announcing the capture of the unnamed ISIS leader. Yet, he didn’t add much more regarding the operation in the Deir el-Zor region.

The SDF tweeted that the operation took place in a rural area of Deir el-Zor province in the village of Azzir. CJTF-OIR supports the SDF, which is mostly comprised of Kurds from the People’s Protection Units (YPG). The SDF also includes Arabs and Syrian Christians in its multi-ethnic force.

In the initial assault, coalition forces inserted by helicopters and then troops stormed a house. Two ISIS fighters blew themselves up to avoid being captured while an Iraqi ISIS fighter was arrested according to the U.K.-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, (SOHR).

As the region is being hit hard by the coronavirus, ISIS has become more aggressive and is trying to rebuild its strength.

Last October, Delta Force conducted a daring raid that killed Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of ISIS

Yet, the U.S. special representative for Syria, Ambassador James Jeffrey, stated that “We do not believe that ISIS has been able to exploit seriously the COVID crisis to advance in the northeast [of Syria].”

“The area around Deir el-Zour is, as we say these days, a hot spot. We’re watching that closely, but we are confident that we have it under control,” he added.

Lieutenant Colonel Savannah Halleaux of the coalition’s Special Operations Joint Task Force, said, “there is an increase in Daesh activity this time of year, but that activity is significantly diminished compared to this time in 2019.”

“Despite what Daesh remnants..

We are still there in Syria. I'm not excited about our Ambassador James Jeffrey, but what we are doing is having positive effect. It is NOT about keeping the oil (we totally don't need it). This is a strategic thing to cripple the Iranian threat, prevent destruction of the oil facilities and prevent Russia from taking them over completely. In doing that to try to bring stability to the area around our allies in Israel, Jordan, Egypt and Saudi Arabia.

You would never get that from the News Media (propaganda).

I continue to pray that stability and security eventually settle around the Kurds, Arab allies and Syriac Christians in N. Syria. In spite of the destabilizing effect of Turkey and their ISIS (Islamist) terrorist friends.

Israel has put in place powerful attacks on Iranian Militia's in Syria (reports say they are leaving Syria). Iran is suffering badly from Covid19. The bottom has fallen out of oil prices, which is badly damaging Iran's ability to spread terror. And the opposition in Iran are growing stronger inside Iran. Desperation bring unpredictable acts. This is coming to a head soon.

I’m glad we’re still with the Kurds.

It is NOT about keeping the oil (we totally don't need it).

Can you give a good reason why we should not keep the oil as spoils of war, or if you like, as compensation for the costs of liberation?

Any time someone mentions it’s about the oil, just ask them how much we got?

Create Kurdistan now!

Aside from Israel, the Kurds are our only REAL ally in the entire Middle East.

They are good allies.

Outside of N. Syria, Kurds vary a lot. They are totally secular in Syria. Each group of Kurds outside of Syria have different priorities.

We have spent a lot of money supporting our allies there. It is right that we should be able to use benefit in some manner.

My point, right now the price of oil is very low. It is because of strategic maneuvers to protect allies and to continue to fight terrorism that we stay there.

Agree, but there are some here who disagree for various reasons. They seldom tell the real reason they disagree.

The strategic value of controlling the oil is much more valuable than the oil itself right now. But I have no answer how large it is. The way the neighboring countries act the oil field must be valuable.

Great. More neocon war games.

While we’ve been blowing $8 trillion on neocon crusades and war games in the Middle East, we ignored the virus from China that has killed 70k Americans and brought our economy to its knees.

Thanks for nothing neocons!!

Bibi and whats his name have formed a government that is surely much stronger than before. Bibi now has the political power consolidated to permit active attack on the diminished Iranian forces .

One wonders if such power actually benefits Syria by killing the Iranian cancer.

One wonders if the law suits against Bibi are still alive

I am not a Neocon.

The virus from China did not bring our economy to it’s knees. Our Experts, directing our leaders did it.

Insane response to the Unknown. Like in NYC where they turned a bad virus into a killing field of old people for money. Yes, Fed Money.

I’m not making excuses for the ChiComs, they think nothing of killing thousands of their own citizens. They think nothing about hiding the cross species transmission of the virus or the nature of the infection.

Nations die from bad leadership. President Trump has been a remarkable president. But he has allowed some really bad advice to be taken. Advice about which little was known about the true risk in the beginning.

He will be pushing daisies. I suspect them will send him to Iraq and try him. They execute ISIS there.

Flawed interpretation not including the full reasoning of the President’s task force.

President’s task force? You mean the coalition?

President Trump has a great history of doing the right thing with international relations. Much better than the predecessors who blindly listened to the stripped pants suits in the State Department. 50 years of disasters should have taught us to do better, but the Deep State is deeply entrenched.
