The article states... The FDA had previously put out recommendations that included discontinuing self-serve stations

This is in regard to self service food stations... what about the 126,000 SELF SERVICE GAS STATIONS in America?

This virus will eventually turn, or is turning, this Country into a "politically correct" nightmare that will strangle our very existence.

They can take my General Tso’s chicken from my cold, dead hands. (Fwiw, it was invented in Michigan)

Sweet Tomatoes with their senior’s low price hours was a favorite place of Mom & me...especially after we both became ‘seniors’

As someone else mentioned, it’s hard to get $X.XX value out of ‘rabbit food’. but it was a fun and convenient place to bond.

Mom left us on March 25...and it wasn’t because of CV, either...she was 95½

50% of restaurants in San Francisco will never reopen

With fast food and sandwich shops serving all day and many day ms in a row wearing personal masks which are constantly being readjusted by filthy gloves hands all day and who knows how they are handled after work and in the bathroom. “Oops! Did I just drop that in the bathroom stall before I took a dooty?”

I’m done with all restaurants until they change the mask and glove routine....

So the minimum wage had nothing to do with it? Sounds like this chain was world famous in California. Never heard of a “Salads Are Us” chain in the Midwest.

You’re attempting to make a straw man argument a poor one at that. Do you eat gasoline? Do you lick your fingers after touching the handle at a gas pump? Having open containers of food that every person in the establishment can touch and put back, sneeze or cough on and just walk away is completely different then touching an object to fill a metal receptacle. One can wash their hands after touching a gas pump you cannot wash your food before you eat it and those hot stations are not at pasteurization temperatures and the cold salad bar is already a germ nightmare. You couldn’t pay me to eat at a golden corral or super china buffet with hordes of gross childrens dirty mits all over everything. Nice try at the straw man though.

Since it began months ago, I don’t think you need to be concerned.

Eating at buffets is one way the body builds up immunity. Clean restaurants happened only recently in the history of mankind, and are still a rarity in the world.

Addressing the self serve, I have seen several self serve stations that are offering full serve again. I didn’t use any so I don’t know about paying for the gas, whether the driver has to pay with a card or if the attendant will do that or take cash.

AS for the self serve beverages and food, I drove from TN to NY State last week. There was one gas station/ convenience store who no longer sold fountain drinks or cooked foods, such as hot dogs or tacquitos, due to the virus in VA. Everywhere else continued to sell the above.

Their goal isn’t just to destroy the economy.

It’s to destroy the republic.

I’m going to miss the Souplantation, although I did overeat there.

“government should not be able to do this.”

Not so much the gov’t as much as that people choose not to eat at a buffet restaurant due to contamination.
Plus the company was already having financial problems and had closed many restaurants across the country in the past year or more.
It was a concept that just wasn’t making it anymore & the virus was literally its death

We knew... Our favorite restaurant for a couple decades. Would drive 50 miles out of our way to eat there. Once left LAX between flights to have lunch there. Would plan 250 mile getaways to cities that had them since there were none in our town. Even owned stock for a while. Stuck now with a gift card and a free meal coupon.

The quality had gone down somewhat over the years with smaller muffins, unimpressive chicken noodle soup, and what I called the “wonton no-chicken unhappiness salad.” They closed a lot of restaurants about 10 years ago. There’s also more good alternative restaurants than there were 30 years ago.

A function of recessions is to eliminate marginal businesses.

Even with the federal government assistance, there are going to be businesses that have been hanging on for maybe years that will close. For the economy, that is good because new strong businesses will sprout

Also, this closing took place in anti business California. There will likely be no sprouts in California because the very soil is poisoned

I’m wondering about Chinese Buffets. I happen to like Chinese Buffets.

For about $2 more than McDonald’s, you can get sushi, salad, a plethora of entrée choices and dessert.

“...to orweliian dictate it is not acceptable in a free society.”

What percentage get gov welfare or entitlements?
What percentage are employed by gov? (Do include pubic school teachers).
What percentage require a gov license to work?
How many had to register with gov to buy/own a handgun?
Can you opt out of (unconstitutional) income tax?
Can you buy food with gold?

Free society? Where? We’ve been Orwelled for a century now...

“You want fries with them bats?”

I always wondered what kind of meat was used on the kabob sticks at our local Chinese Dynasty Buffet.

Also...pretty sure their pot stickers where just the scrapings of whatever was left in the pots and wrapped in a little dough thingee. Always taste different...often with something crunchy inside.

Not enough duck sauce in the world to make me eat that crap again.
