You can start sports probably easier than other things.
Sure, you can’t have a full stadium, any more than you can have a full theater, or a packed beach, or a nightclub dance floor at capacity.
But every seat in a stadium is individually sold. It is a simple matter to take half the seats in each row out, and then every other row. You sell 25% capacity, and allow groups to “move together” if they choose, which will tend to make groupings with multiple seats vacant.
Then you do all your concession sales by phone, with delivery to your seat. Although not sure you want people to pass your food down a row.
Football, you need to make sure your players are not infected, because they are in close contact. But baseball? It’s absurd to think you’d even have to stop mound conferences, like do you think the catcher is going to pick up the virus during the walk to the mound?
And I have no clue why they stopped tennis. Tennis players are always separated by large distances in singles, and in doubles, they are partners and can take the risk. They could have played to empty stadiums if needed, the money is in contracts, or you could have seated a couple hundred people for each match so there would be clapping between points.
IOW never.
Thanks for this reality re a vaccine for Covid:
I think we need to proceed as though a vaccine may never be available and learn to live with the notion that this virus may be with us for sometime. The quoted time frames of 18 to 24 months are just posited guesses really designed to try and and pacify a panicky public. Economically speaking, we dont have that much time to produce one as the moneys needed to fund such a vaccine will run out due to a complete destruction of the western economy. You need to produce wealth to maintain both health and wealth.
Fauci was not able to make an Hiv vaccine in 30 years and corona virus species vaccine attempts in the past have not worked. I think we should put into place smart rules about disease mitigation and then get back to work! We can live and die at least on our feet or we can die miserably in our caves...but no magic potions are in the offing for the time being. As a society we are going to have to slog thru the mud and from time to time mourn our losses.
Bump
governor Newsom is doing nothing but a shake down on business. If he gets the right donation in the right amount then he will open up sports.
Even if there was a vaccine, I wouldn’t touch it. Look at the people who want it and you’ll find a lot of leftists.
I was going to say that Noisome is making even Schwarzenegger look good, but then I realized Arnold might have tried to be even more restrictive.
Even if there were a vaccine, would you take it? Not me.
[Sure, you cant have a full stadium, any more than you can have a full theater, or a packed beach, or a nightclub dance floor at capacity]
Why not? People can decide for themselves if they want to go or not. If everyone can be sent through the same self checks at Wal-Mart and grocery stores, etc., touching the same unclean keypad, they can surely decide for themselves if they want to go to a baseball game or a movie theater.
I agree with the logic. We should enforce home quarantine for all homosexuals until there is a vaccine for AIDS, too. /s
I agree that if Trump loses in November the situation will be dire - but that doesn’t mean he’s done a good job with this.
"I think the most probable answer is, never, but people dont seem to like that."
Although I would adjust it to ... 'We will have A very expensive vaccine that doesn't do all that much but will be claimed, since you can't prove a negative, to be a miracle preventing millions of human deaths each year.
Also there will be very expensive therapeutic treatments the names of which are not abbreviated HQL.
And then thanks to these 2 things that don't in reality do much it will be safe to be in stadiums again ... maybe if you have your vaccine card with you or the number chipped into you or branded on your arm.
Fans can decide if they want to take the risk.
That could only happen in a free country.
High school and college sports will have to wait, too. Right?
It’s no different than saying, “I’m suspending your constitutional rights until there’s a vaccine”. Which may be never.
We are not living in the world of 2 months ago - when we knew nothing about this virus. Now we do. We know whom is at risk, they can take precautions, the rest of us should get back to normal asap - even if we maintain distance & wear masks, etc., but ONLY until we’re sure we won’t overwhelm the hospitals. There’s no other justification. At this point we know that isn’t going to happen.
That people are ok with a single individual in government suspending their constitutional rights is astonishing. I guess it is true, those that are willing to give up their liberty for temporary safety...desire neither.
Governors, you are not our overlords, or parents, or kings, you have absolutely no right to issue ‘orders’ as ‘law’. If you think you do, then it’ll end badly for you. We-the-people don’t agree.
Our will be done.
“It is time to begin a RECALL since it is clear Newsome is in over his head.”
I don’t see how pro sports are dangerous to players and crowds, but not college and high school sports too. Also, Little League and kids soccer. Newsom will have to ban all group sports.
Yes, I think a successful recall campaign might be a real possibility.
If during ww2 the brits decided to hide in their bunkers without ever coming out to work...we would all be speaking German.
Let’s not all die from nothing more than fear.
lol
I’m getting too aggravated i’m outta here for a while.
have a good one
Cancel sports for all California teams and see how stupid they look at the end of the year.
