The military will stop recruiting applicants who have tested positive for COVID-19, according to a proposal in a memo from the U.S. Military Entrance Processing Command (MEPCOM). The contents of the memo, which has been circulating on the internet, were confirmed to Newsweek by the Pentagon, which described them as "interim guidance."..."During the medical history interview or examination, a history of COVID-19, confirmed by either a laboratory test or a clinician diagnosis, is permanently disqualifying," the memo reads.

What a crock of unbelievable crap. Theyre trying to make this flu look like the aids virus which is unbelievable.
Stupid media headline.
For now they’re called that way. Could change tomorrow.
We just don’t know if they’re shedding, after-effects, whatever.
When new info somes out they’ll be allowed.
I hate our lying media so much!
I see that a Fox News version of the story was posted just before I finished this one. Recruits will not get a waiver, though, because there are no official, documented reasons for granting a waiver.
Pentagon: Anyone hospitalized for coronavirus ‘disqualified’ from joining military without waiver

The reasons are that the disease can reoccur after recovery, might more easily infect someone who was previously infected with worse symptoms than the first time and the possibility of chronic organ conditions.
Good on you for posting that.
I think it’s just the uncertainty that resulted in this.
This makes me think of some of the restrictions on donating blood. I am forever (to date) banned from donating blood because of....Mad Cow Disease. Even though I never got it, and the Mad Cow thing was from the 80’s. I lived and traveled in Europe/UK during the time.
This whole mess will hopefully expose the major breakdowns in the “agencies” funded, and trusted, by the public.
Possibilities:
I have epilepsy, so I am too. Plus I can’t get drafted either.
But aren’t we all survivors...if we don’t die from the coronavirus?
60-70% of the population is going to get this, have they thought this one out?
It’s a short term policy. Bringing in a person with undetected lung, kidney, heart or other damage would be very expensive. I suspect it won’t be long before we can understand and quantify the damage done by the disease with a few basic tests. Once we get a handle on any long term effects, the policy will shift to reflect medical reality. This virus has only been around for 6 months. The DOD just needs some time to get a handle on it.
Instead of causing a panic why not just institute a 2 year deferral?
Everyone is going to get the virus sooner or later. With the action of our government, we chose later. So that leaves us two things. We develop a vaccine or we hope that the virus will mutate itself into a less deadly strain. According to a study by Arizona State University, it is already happening and it is following similar pattern to SARS back in 2003. If that’s the case, we would probably see the virus start to weaken by August or September. But we’ll see.
But homosexuality and transsexualism are not disqualifying. So it goes.
Agreed. I’m guessing that the policy will be revised and don’t see a likelihood that the new coronavirus will cause symptoms repeatedly in each infected person in the long term. In that sense, it’s probably not going to be like herpes (e.g., fever blisters).
Well, we’ll see.
So much isn’t known now.
Vaccines dont work on viruses, they mutate. So, Not only is all small business revenue to be transferred to the big box companies, we are to have no military.
Going to be an interesting Global famine...
Dont blame God, we did this to ourselves.
Strangely, AIDS cannot be discriminated against, and it has a 100% fatility rate. And in 40 years we have been unable to manufacture a vaccine.
