A mutation in the novel coronavirus mirrors a change that occurred in the genetically similar SARS virus in 2003 indicating that the bug might be weakening, researchers announced in a newly published study.
Lead study author Dr. Efren Lim, an assistant professor at Arizona State Universitys Biodesign Institute, and his team use a new technology called next-generation sequencing to rapidly read the genetic code of the coronavirus, referred to scientists as SARS-CoV-2.

Democrats everywhere angered.
Is the virus weakening everywhere? Seems unlikely to be happening simultaneously worldwide.
This makes utterly no sense to non-epidemiologist me, but is par for the course of complete and total BS being endlessly spewed on this topic.
If it’s a new mutation, how can it be known whether it’s stronger or weaker? What tests have been performed if the mutation is new?
According to Laura tonight - and two doctors she had on - this is how SARS, MERS, and the other viruses we’ve dealt with went away.
I can’t help wondering if it was actually as deadly as the “experts” said it was in the first place. I admit that the main reason I have those doubts is what I’ve read recently about the CDC cutting their death figures by around half (from over 60K to 29K).
Yet this afternoon there was another report that it’s getting much more virulent everywhere.
I don’t recall hearing the CDC reducing the COVID-19 death figures.
A virus is almost always mutating - one of the ways they can track the infection and figure out how long it has been in an area. Some mutations are “weaker” and some are “stronger”. Of course it is the stronger ones that we need to worry about.
Some might be more deadly but less virulent and vice-versa.
It was just a couple of days ago. If accurate, it’s very, very significant. Any other Freepers out there who recall the posts? (I don’t recall who it was, but someone on this board posted it in several threads).
The CDC explained that the lower number is based on actual death certificates which on average lag 1 to 2 weeks.
If you are having 2000 deaths a day that’s 14,000 to 28,000 death certificates that aren’t in the lower number.

Infectious, not virulent. Big difference, although you’d never know it from the hype. This thing began as a horror movie and has devolved into a clown show.
It’s already GONE from YouTube for violating guidelines!
Stop repeating that same crap.

The virus was never as dangerous as we were told. Now they are walking it back by saying it is mutated and not as deadly.
It seems the Chinese played the world with the help of paid politicians and those in the media.
Why would they do this? Punishment. The Chinese were losing the trade war and they wanted to set the west back
Will this kill the world’s economy? No, since as soon as they release the world from house arrest people will return to work and while it may be slow to get moving it will soon be at top speed again.
Democrats will be sadden
(My opinion based on nothing more then how I interpret events over the past five months)
Interesting - I just read a couple stories where a new mutation is making it worse and now i find out it is easing up....no wonder the confusion carries on...conflicting studies all over the place.
