COVID-19: MSNBC Rips Polis Over Colorado's Early Opening
Westword ^ | May 4 2020 | MICHAEL ROBERTS

Today, May 4, is another benchmark in the safer-at-home program launched by Governor Jared Polis in the wake of COVID-19, with counties that haven't extended their stay-at-home orders (as Denver and several other metro jurisdictions have through May 8) scheduled to allow previously shuttered offices to reopen at a staff capacity of up to 50 percent.

Polis is expected to talk up safer-at-home policies at a forthcoming press conference. But in the meantime, he continues to be ripped on both sides, albeit for very different reasons. Protesters like those who gathered at the State Capitol on May 1 accuse him of dragging his feet in lifting restrictions, while pundits on MSNBC, national cable's progressive bastion, argue that he's doing so too quickly.

Shortly after Polis offered a May 1 update to Coloradans, MSNBC's Steve Kornacki helmed an extended segment on the state's reopening protocol — and two public-health commentators suggested that the approach was dangerous, particularly given that testing on demand is nowhere close to being a thing here yet. As they spoke, a thumbnail U.S. map graphically identifying Colorado as the only state in the Mountain West with more than 10,000 confirmed positive cases hovered in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. (The current Colorado case total, updated at 4 p.m. on May 3, shows 16,635 cases, leading to at least 842 deaths.)

Then, over the weekend, NBC's online outlets blasted out a report headlined, "Republicans are reopening. And so is this state led by a Democrat." The theme? While Polis is talking more responsibly than GOP governors in states such as Georgia, he's moving at a similarly speedy pace.

I’m betting that prominent ‘rats will whisper in his ear, and we’ll have to suffer even more.

I’m in Colorado, and while I have lots of reasons to dislike Polis, in this area, I think he’s done pretty well. In my county the parks have mostly open and lots of folks enjoying them throughout. Local towns have options, AS THEY SHOULD, locals know their town or county better than someone far away. Florida is awesome, after a bit of a stumble. Cuomo is looking more and more problematic.

I'm in Fort Collins. With what this freak in the Governor's Manson has done with energy, budget and other BS his rubber-stamp state congress passed; Needless to say, I think polis is a POS. But I reluctantly agree with what you wrote. ....Now I feel dirty, just like I did after voting for romney and gardner.

First and foremost, is there anyone at all who cares one whit what MSDNC has to say about anything? Really?
Second, is there anyone at all that cares one whit about anything MSDNC has to say about anything? No? I didn’t think so.

This is not about saving lives. It's never been about saving lives. Its always been about crashing the economy with lockdowns until November.
This right here proves it.

I’m also in Colorado and have to agree that Polis has done a pretty good job on this issue. We haven’t suffered a lot of the problems seen in other places. Most of the people here also seem to be cooperative and generally supportive of each other.

Polis is an MSNBC poster boy. Gay, married to a man with a child they somehow obtained liberal democrat. Talk about turning on your own....

Yes he has take. a few baby steps but am am hearing he has also told schools to prepare for remote learning til January.

Our only hope in Colorado is our independent minded sheriffs who have declined to enforce unconstitutional laws and edicts in the past. I used to include Douglas country in that but our sheriff is all about the red flag laws......

Of coarse they do, their never ending fantasy is coming to an end, dictatorial governors trying in vain to keep their citizenry enslaved and under thumb, demands here, demands there, I will jail you, I will fine you, I will send drones to spy on you.

Some people are lovin’ this crap. The kind of people who go hiking with a freaking mask on and drive their cars with rubber gloves.

“I think polis is a POS”

That. I’m in Longmont and the Boulder County Health Department has decided on its own to require masks in a retail stores.

The MSM is trash. The CO is actually doing something right for once. Part of the MSM and liberals problem is that everything is zero sum, black and white to them - ergo, if Republicans want to open up their states and get back to work, it must be bad.

I am from Thornton and echo JoSixChip's comments. My hot buttons are gun control and abortion so Polis wont be getting my vote. But with regards to the Covid-19 ... he has done well enough to earn my grudging respect.
