WASHINGTON Later this month, Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. will escape for a family retreat to mourn his late son, Beau, but also to mull, as his dying son urged him to do, a campaign for president. Some of Mr. Bidens friends and allies worry that he will decide it is a good idea.
Those supporters, in the White House and the Senate, and within the political circles he has moved in for decades, fear that the legacy Mr. Biden has built as an effective partner who took on tough jobs for President Obama, not to mention the deep reservoir of public good will and sympathy he has amassed in his poignant handling of personal tragedies, could be sacrificed in the pursuit of an unsuccessful challenge to Hillary Rodham Clinton for the Democratic nomination.
They fret that Mr. Biden, as well known for his undisciplined, sometimes self-immolating comments as he is for his charm on the trail, could endanger Mr. Obamas own legacy by injuring Mrs. Clintons candidacy and causing his party to lose control of the White House.

The Democrats wouldnt want a rouge reporter shining a flashlight in all the dark corners of past administrations.
For those of us who get our news from trustable and intelligent sources, Biden’s legacy is already pond scum buried beneath excrement and soaked with toad piss.
Sorry NYT, but you an even greater joke than Hollywood.
Legacy??
He has one?
Who knew?
“Bruise” his legacy? I think it’s a bit too late for that.
Since his legacy is that of a filthy leftist scrum traitor, I’d say his legacy might get even better.
He was the VP for the first black president.
Legacy in 9 word sentence.
Quite an accomplishment!
THIS LEGACY?
That’s a big worry. One of the most distinguished legacies in world history could be tarnished.
Any time a college fraternity hosts a booze-filled rave with attendant charges of rape and other forms of sexual assault will one find biden’s legacy alive and well.
He should have offered to run only if a brokered convention nominated him. Right now he’s an embarrassment.
Yeah, a legacy of lying, perversion, arrogance, graft, and all-around sleaziness. It ticks me off that people enter politics as middle class and end up leaving as millionaires with retirement benefits we proles can only dream of.
I agree with Mencken’s assessment of politicians:
“These men, in point of fact, are seldom if ever moved by anything rationally describable as public spirit; there is actually no more public spirit among them than among so many burglars or streetwalkers. Their purpose, first, last and all the time, is to promote their private advantage, and to that end, and that end alone, they exercise all the vast powers that are in their hands.”
Republicans are about as bad as Democrats. I said as much to Jason Chavetz on one of his many posts about all the expensive vacations he and his wife were taking after his retirement from public office. Must be nice to have no financial worries.
which part of his legacy? The corruption? The pedophilia? The plagiarism? The lying?
