Over a dozen potential COVID-19 vaccines are currently under development that could be candidates for a Trump administration program to fast-track for widespread inoculation by January 2021, senior officials within the administration told NBC News.
The program, known as "Operation Warp Speed" whittled down 14 candidates from a pool 93 potential vaccines several weeks ago.
According to officials, those 14 vaccine candidates will undergo testing to further whittle down the number of vaccines to six or eight. This batch of candidates will make it to next rounds of clinical trials. From there, health experts are looking to weed out faulty candidates and come out with three or four vaccines that clear final testing to be used by early 2021.
Of course, none of the 14 chosen vaccines are guaranteed to make it through trials and testing, but the officials who talked to the network were optimistic.
“Can I say with 100 percent certainty? No,” one of the officials told the news source. “There is a reasonable probability that one or more of these vaccines will be successful.”
President Trump Thursday praised the program and said that he would be overseeing the program himself.
Officials noted that program itself would cost billions of dollars. An exact monetary figure wasn't given, but officials told NBC News that the funds would come from pre-existing government funds. The official added that there was no guarantee that any vaccine that comes from this work would be accessible to all Americans.
The project reportedly includes several federal agencies, including Health and Human Services, Veterans Affairs, the Pentagon and the Agriculture Department.

Unless Trump smartens up and spends what would only have to be a fraction of what has been spent on stimulus so far and ordered enough testing machines and tests so that it’s as easy as getting gas for your car. Anything else is going to just continue this Bizarro world we are currently in and every day more and more people are getting pissed off at it and it’s going to result in less and less votes for Trump.
Since this virus attacks certain segments of the population it must be optional.

I will never take any vaccine for “COVID”, just as I have never taken any flu shot. Also, I have never had the flu. This despite 20 years commuting each day on the NYC subways. Strengthen your immune system, and you need not worry about viruses.

I tend to want to agree with this, but is the answer on testing just a question of spending? I’m not well-versed enough on it to know.
I wouldn’t hold my breath for a vaccine or a cure. It’s just BS happy talk. The ChiCom Cold is going to spread and there isn’t much anybody can do to stop it. There is NO eradicating this virus. It WILL run its course. And I’m not that worried about it. When you factor in non-reported infections in addition to the officially reported “cases”, the fatality rate of this virus isn’t all that high. They’re starting to get glimpses of that when they do widespread antibody testing, or in cases like that prison in TN where they have a captive population, so they end of testing everyone and not just biasing the “cases” to those who have bad enough symptoms to want to see a doctor.
When I was working at the hospital, we were forced to take the vaccine or we had to write a letter saying why we objected. If approved, we had to wear a mask at all times during flu season even though I worked off site of the hospital and never saw patients.
They started mandatory 5 years ago. They even appointed a person in each dept to make sure you got your flu shot. If you didn’t got reported up to CFO who gave you a stern warning that you could be fired.
Doesn’t matter anymore. Even if they get a vaccine, China and other enemies know what the impact of a bio virus can do our country and how we will respond.
There will be more bio viruses coming now every year well maybe only when a Republican is in congress.

On the other hand, COVID-2003, which was a first cousin to COVID-2019, basically disappeared by 2004.
Perhaps COVID-2019 will eradicate (or mutate) itself?
A rushed development process is a sloppy and dangerous development process.

The Fearpers on these threads don’t appear to care if a vaccine is safe or not and they give ample empirical evidence to support that.
How do they come out with a new flu vaccine every year?
This country developed atomic weapons and went to the moon under such initiatives. So far be it from me to say it can’t be done.
But, there are no guarantees.
And the track record is not encouraging.
Biggest benefit may turn out to be that it keeps Anthony Fauci glued to his eTrade account and away from microphones.
