As General Douglas MacArthur reflected in his memoirs, “The decision to withhold previously pledged support [to Chiang’s regime] was one of the greatest mistakes ever made in our history. … Its consequences will be felt for centuries, and its ultimate disastrous effects on the fortunes of the free world are still to be unfolded.”

Very wise but ignored words by General MacArthur. We and the world are paying the price today.

In 1949 we were unwilling to send a single man to fight to save (massive) China from a communist takeover.

In 1950 we were sending 300,000 men to save Korea (a peninsula) from a communist takeover.

Who was running our foreign policy????

“China fought U.S. and UN forces in the Korean War, a war that was instigated by China and North Korea. China’s threats to Taiwan and smaller offshore islands in the 1950s caused President Eisenhower to threaten atomic reprisals.”

Get a Republican in the White House and common sense returns.

MacArthur was a drama queen who thought he had no commander. He learned different.

This work explains MANY things re the Left's subversion success in the 20th century.

There's a very good chance that you'll be shocked at the depth and scope of the traitorous perfidy.

1948 was an election year, proposing to get involved in China civil war would be a political suicide for a presidential candidate.

.. and yes, it’s very germane/connected to US (Truman, et al) complicity in ceding control of China to the CCP.

From Treasury to VOA, the U.S. government was shot through with bolsheviks from WWI on. In the case of China, Chiang was continually misled, double-crossed and lied to. Promised funding and materiel was delayed or never delivered. Mao, on the other hand, was bruited as a gifted military tactician and humanitarian, both grotesquely untrue. Grossly misleading and dishonest reports were concocted and sent up the line to the president and secretary of State. Look up Solomon Adler.

.......
MacArthur’s unrealistic hindsight. Chiang had terrible relationships with arrogant American generals, politicians and advisers.

Solomon Adler (August 6, 1909 — August 4, 1994) worked as U.S. Treasury representative in China during World War II. He was identified by Whittaker Chambers and Elizabeth Bentley as a Soviet spy and resigned from the Treasury Department in 1950. ... From the early 1960s, Adler was also affiliated with the International Liaison Department, an important organ of the Chinese Communist Party organ whose functions include foreign intelligence. It seems these people have been taking us long enough... and for a long time.

Then how do you explain GH and GW Bush? Just asking for a friend of course. Thankfully Trump is not a Republican in dogma.

*** In 1950 we were sending 300,000 men to save Korea (a peninsula) from a communist takeover. ***

... while at the same time putting the 7th Fleet in the Formosa Strait to prevent Chaing from re-crossing to the mainland. Considering how much combat power that the CCP had committed to Korea one wonders if they could have handled a 2nd front?

I doubt sending American troops to China in 1948 or 1949 could have stopped Mao from winning the war. It was Chiang’s war to win or lose. I doubt Americans would have been eager to suffer a lot of American deaths in the endeavor, so soon after 400,000+ had died in WWII. But I am too young to have been following the news at the time.
