Gun Control Fail: Canadian Mass Murderer Prohibited Possessor

The restrictions Canada has placed on obtaining, keeping, and using firearms failed entirely in the recent mass murder case in Nova Scotia. I refrain from using the murderer's name.

Canadian restrictions on gun ownership failed. The murderer had plead guilty to an assault charge in 2002. He paid a $50 fine, and served probation for nine months. He then had a lifetime ban on owning firearms.  From nypost.com:

Authorities said Wortman did not have a police record, but information later emerged of at least one run-in with the law. Nova Scotia court records confirm he was ordered to receive counseling for anger management after pleading guilty to assaulting a man in the Halifax area on Oct. 29, 2001.

The guilty plea came on Oct. 7, 2002, as his trial was about to begin. He was placed on probation for nine months, fined $50 and told to stay away from the man, and also prohibited from owning or possessing a weapon, ammunition or explosive substances.

Mass shootings are relatively rare in Canada. The country overhauled its gun control laws after Marc Lepine shot 14 women and himself to death at Montreal’s Ecole Polytechnique college in 1989. Before the weekend rampage, that had been Canada’s worst mass shooting.

Authorities have not released much information about what firearms the murderer used in his killings. We know he took one handgun and magazines from the RCMP officer he killed. The standard-issue handgun for the RCMP is the Smith & Wesson 5946 9mm. It is a stainless steel, double action only version of the S&W model 59 series. The magazine holds 15 rounds of ammunition.  It has been reported the killer used one handgun and several long guns. From the CBC.ca:

At. 3:35 AM, CDT this morning (Sunday),there was a mass shooting of 5 teenagers in the North Lawndale section of Chicago.

Mayor Groot and the DA, Crimesha,, don’t care. Zip, nada, none for news coverage.

Gun control is not about safety or reducing crime. It is purely political and designed to turn citizens into subjects.

Not even the FN FNG.

At times, it can be hazardous to be around a FNG...

It is indeed. Every Canadian boy wants to have one to go along with their Lee Enfield.

But we can’t. :(

This is the comment I posted elsewhere about this despicable action by Trudeau and Blair...

Hoping to capitalize on a devastating tragedy, during a global pandemic, and with parliament shut down, irresponsible ideologues Trudeau and Blair have decided in true dictatorial fashion to skirt the democratic process and impose regulations to confiscate the legally-acquired property of Canada’s single most law-abiding segment of the populace.

Canadian gun owners don’t use these guns to commit crimes. Except in very rare cases, even the violent criminals don’t use these guns to commit crimes.

The losses to Canadian gun owners will be in the multi-millions. The effect on sport shooting (the single fastest growing sport in Canada currently) will be chilling. The harm to sporting businesses and gun stores will be devastating. The damage to the economy will be immense.

And the insult to civil rights and freedoms will be egregious.

And this ban will do absolutely nothing to reduce crime or prevent a similar tragedy. There is no credible research or evidence to support this draconian policy whatsoever.

They don’t care about that. They lie to you about that, repeatedly. They don’t go after the real criminals.

So, you have to ask yourself, what is their REAL reason for wanting to ban over 1500 different firearms and trample the basic civil liberties of a free and democratic populace?

(Yes, it’s a rhetorical question.)

My favorite is the Aussie L1A1. Had one about 15 years ago and loved it. Wish I had never sold it.

Been wondering where you’ve been.

Wish I could say, "building FALs", but those parts kits dried up back when we were new to Free Republic. I still like the old FN advertising slogan (which may be even more true today ;^):

"FAL - The Free World's Right Arm"
