I don't know if Thakor misspoke or was misquoted, but my understanding is that the hydroxychloroquine helps the zinc come inside the cell, and the zinc kills the virus.

Hydroxychloroquine connects to iron in the red blood cells, preventing covid19 from stripping it to replicate itself.
So although hydroxychloroquine doesn’t kill covid 19, it prevents covid 19 from lowering the bloods oxygen carrying capacity as much.

You're exactly right. He got his phrases transposed. He ought to have said HCQ, being an ionophore, opens the door and lets the zinc get past the cell membrane.
It's the zinc that grabs those corona-creeps by the deely-bobbers and kills them dead.
