Georgia to lift stay-at-home order for most residents Friday

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R) told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Thursday that he will lift a statewide shelter-in-place order for most of the state’s residents Friday.

Kemp will continue requiring elderly and “medically fragile” Georgians to continue sheltering in place through June 12 and allow businesses to keep numerous restrictions in place through May 13, according to the newspaper.

The governor told the newspaper he had based his decision on an increase in testing and hospital capacity.

“What we’ve done has worked,” he told the Journal-Constitution. “It’s given us time to build our hospital infrastructure capacity, get ventilators and ramp up testing. That’s what really drove our decision.”

Kemp also urged Georgians leaving their homes to wear masks in public, but said the need was less urgent in areas with more space to maintain distance such as parks and beaches.

“It isn’t as if a switch has been flipped and everything has opened,” Kathleen Toomey, the commissioner of Georgia’s Public Health Department, told the Journal-Constitution. “We’re moving into this phase carefully and cautiously and encouraging social distancing, wearing a mask in public.”

I wasn’t a big Kemp fan here in GA, but I am one now. I hope he stays the course. The media is going to go full court panic on Georgia.

The local Atlanta-Journal Constitution has the Kemp Lied Georgians Died articles already written.
The question is how will they skew the data to justify publishing them.

If he opens the schools I’ll personally drive to Georgia and campaign for his re-election.

I have been pulling the data for some time now and will give accurate information as provided by the Georgia Department of Public Health Daily Status Report.

I have no problem calling people out for their BS. Been there and done that numerous times. I have connections with the AJC and the Gwinnett Daily Post, plus a few others including TV.

Fact + Data = Truth

The governor is leaving that to the counties to make the decision. Gwinnett is conducting 4-day online classes

There is no way that ANY school district will open up by the end of the year.

Teachers and ESPECIALLY the Superintendents already have their vacations planned.

I am pointing my finger directly at Alvin Wilbanks, you worthless POS who makes over half a million dollars a year plus stipends to enforce Common Core on our students.

Get real. He never really closed Georgia. If it wasn't for Mayor Bottoms closing Atlanta, it would look like NY here already.

Partisanship aside, Kemp and Kathleen Toomey couldn't tell their @ss from their elbows in this crisis. Neither of them knew anything about asymptomatic spread less than a month ago despite the daily taskforce briefings and calls they were on.

He's in panic mode because of high unemployment. That's the opposite of leadership. Georgia is going to be the canary in the coal mine on this reopening business.

He's ignoring the taskforce's phased reopening gating criteria and plowing full speed ahead. He's willing to risk the health of Georgians so people can get their hair done and go shopping at the indoor mall. This crisis has already demonstrated the lack of self-discipline in Georgians as you've still seen whole families out grocery shopping and planning large parties.

We won't know until mid-to-late May if he's causing another spike and we get plunged into a hard shut down. We haven't had Atlanta open so we don't know what effect that'll have because his order upends the mayors'. Kemp doesn't care about letting municipalities manage the crisis with their residents. So much for trust in local government.

Nothing to apologize for. I don’t think you made an error, it’s just that talking about school years gets other people confused it seems, so I always clarify.

This virus fiasco has really been eye opening. People you thought would fight for freedom are actually actively fighting for its destruction. An amazing thing to watch. Not fun to watch, but amazing. FR is half field with people that hate the Constitution. Who would have figured?
