New York State paid a Silicon Valley electrical engineer more than $69 million for a ventilators that never arrived, according to a report on Wednesday.
Yaron Oren-Pines on March 30 pocketed $69.1 million for 1,450 ventilators a jaw-dropping $47,656 per ventilator at least triple the standard retail price of high-end models, Buzzfeed News reported.
The Empire State terminated the contract about a month later and is now trying to claw back the cash, the report said.

and is now trying to claw back the cash,
Good luck with that.
One has to admire the audacity of it, though.

About when?
Those Solyndra ventilators sure did look promising, though
Did they contact eBay?
Cuomo has a habit of spending tax payer money on products, and projects that never materialize, but the money somehow ends up in the pockets of his big donors. Trace the company in Silicon Valley, and see if anyone involved is a donor to Cuomo’s campaign.
They were solar powered and were made from hemp and unicorn farts
Gov. Nipple-rings Queermo’s failure to plan should not be my emergency.

Oren-Pines should have held unto the money and simply go to the open market, buy the 1,450 ventilators (they are plentiful now) and deliver them to NY. A fool (Cuomo) and the taxpayers money are soon parted.
The original Buzzfeed article has a lot more detail of the whole sordid panic buying of medical equipment. People were getting stinking rich off this. See After One Tweet To President Trump, This Man Got $69 Million From New York For Ventilators. (rather sensational and not entirely truthful headline)

Clearly the gouger was going to be making large donations to the politicians that gave him the contract. No other reason to pay 4 times the rate, when they could have had them manufactured by another company.
Arrest him ,squeeze him and see if he talks about the pay-off he was going to make or has already made for the contract
Every day I think “Cuomo couldn’t possibly be more incompetent, but yet he is.”
Bragging rights all over the place with this story.
Do the price gouging laws apply here?
Unrelated to the ventilators, but interesting.
Cuomo is not a fool. On the other hand the taxpayers who voted for Cuomo ....
I was just about to type, “A fool and his money are soon parted.” I suspectthat money for ventilators went elsewhere. As did Chaslaine”s $800,000+ that can’t be accounted for.
If only someone had told them that they didn’t need that many ventilators.
And ventilators don’t even help much. I don’t think the doctors want them.
