Hume cited the “economic damage” and “budgetary harm” as other examples: “We are saddling our country and future generations with debt on a scale that was already high and now it is far, far worse. Not to mention the toll on businesses with which won’t reopen and so on. The unemployment.
The consequences for children being locked up at home and not being able to go to school with their friends and be outside, the mental health issues that arise from that, the domestic domestic violence … That’s part of it, the damage from it.”
The Fox News correspondent’s second reason centered around the fact that coronavirus “overwhelmingly affects elderly people and those with serious underlying medical conditions.”
“Everyone else is much less vulnerable, down to children who seem almost totally invulnerable to catching this disease,” he said, contending that it “can be addressed” by having the vulnerable quarantined.
“This is not in my view all about simply we are so good at the mitigation efforts,” Hume said after observing how the virus has failed to spread to places outside major metropolitan areas like New York City. “I think there’s reason to believe that this disease turned out, outside of certain populations, not to be not early as severe and dangerous as we thought and certainly the death rates I think will end up reflecting that.”

For those of you who doubt the power of the legacy media, here it is on full display. The media has successfully scared the heck out of most Americans. That fear is so deep that no amount of logic, reason, or data that eases those fears is acceptable.

Agreed, the media is not dead yet. Fingers crossed. People forget that the only reason Mueller was appointed is because of the ranting and raving for weeks by the media demanding a special investigation. I can remember Charlie Rose on CBS this morning, before being fired, almost getting out of his chair screaming and turning Red in the face imploring the need to investigate Trump. I thought he was going to have a heart attack. Everyone else in the media piled on.
I agree. That’s why it is good to see things like this. Even the despicable NYT had a similar article a day or so ago. Tide seems to be turning. Way too slowly for me.
But what about the polls that say the lock down is a okay? I guess those really are bogus polls.
The virus has shown just how much power MSM still has. I can say without a doubt in my mind if Obongo had done exactly what Trump has done in this his approval numbers would be in upper 70’s to low 80’s. So it is fair to say MSM gives the rats a 20-30 point advantage right off the top.
People have gotten hysterical, that’s for sure. And you can’t say anything, they get defensive and angry, like you’re trying to endorse contagion and death.
They’ll violate the social distancing rule to smack someone for not wearing a mask.

I don’t underestimate the power of the media, but you cannot deny the truth of what Hume said here.
It appears that Trump is beginning to push to reopen, but he is not moving nearly fast enough for me. Many of the governors fear being blamed for a second outbreak and deaths so they will likely wait another two weeks to see how those states that did start reopening perform. Some of them will drag it out.
I said 6 weeks ago that the media was driving the bus with the doom doctors giving direction and everyone, including Trump, was along for the ride.
We now KNOW, unlike 6 weeks ago, with a high degree of certainty that it is safe for the majority of Americans not in a vulnerable category to return to work. The risks for them are very minimal outside of potentially infecting those who are vulnerable.
This is the only solution that will preserve what is left of the economy.

However, the media did manage a perfect storm if the intention was to bring down the burgeoning and thriving US economy (and for that matter, much of the rest of the world).
Now we face short-term and long-term disruption of all kinds of supply chains, for every necessity of life, and compounded with the oil price crisis brought on by what is essentially a distance-and-direction urination contest between the Russian Federation and Saudi Arabia both trying to underbid the other, leading to a world oil glut.
This is what things look like when the fit hits the shan.
Completely agree. Trump is underestimating the damage being done to the economy by this slow reopening.
Just yesterday it was announced that Biden leads Trump in a national poll.
One interpretation is that there more voters for Biden than Trump. That correlates exactly with the fact that Hillary clinton and Al gore won the popular vote in Presidential elections.
That means there are more of them than there are of us.
That more of them provide the eyeballs that allow the MSM to sell ads to keep going. The use of the term legacy is incorrect. Since the media is not dead or even dieing, there can be no inheritance passed on.
The MSM is alive and kicking although the print media is in a struggle. So long as there are more of them than there are of us providing eyeballs the MSM vwill continue as a Threat to America
