There is one fact I haven’t heard challenged: A couple weeks ago Birx said she can “tell by the numbers that everyone isn’t following social distancing” precisely”.
There is no way this variable affecting Covid-positive diagnoses can be known within about plus or minus 75% accuracy. I can’t wait for the real numbers to shake out, assuming we can ever get straight data. It’s like expecting to get unadulterated historical weather data.

The word you are looking for is not Virulent - it’s infectious or transmissible.
Virulent means it would have “worse or more deadly” action.
The higher deaths in NY area have been rightly explained and attributed to NY areas higher population density, and improper government policies (like for example sending confirmed COVID patients into nursing homes that did not have any COVID in them before). Also, decreasing the number of subway cars and buses (keeping the fewer riders still crammed together).
