Americans find positives in lockdown as anxiety soars: study

Los Angeles (AFP) - Anxiety may be soaring under coronavirus lockdown, but a study Wednesday found Americans are enjoying more time with their partners and children, rediscovering hobbies and creative pursuits -- and smoking marijuana.

The University of Southern California survey found Americans particularly miss visiting friends and relatives, dining at restaurants and shopping at real-world stores, but are adapting their habits at an astonishing pace.

"We've been thrust into the greatest social science experiment of all time," Jeffrey Cole, the study center's director, told AFP. "Except that none of us prepared and none of us volunteered."

"We're seeing massive change that would take years, in days," he added.

The "Coronavirus Disruption Project" polled 1,000 online respondents across the nation about changes in their lives since the onset of the disease.

Some 61 percent reported feeling more anxious, while more than one-third said they are lonelier since the pandemic began.

But despite those woes, 35 percent said their relationship with their spouse or partner is better now.

And almost half of parents reported improvements with their children -- perhaps because more than 80 percent of them have relaxed rules over bedtime, television viewing and video games.

"The anxiety levels are really extraordinary," said Cole, comparing the pandemic to 9/11 or even the Great Depression.

"Men are more likely to think their relationship has improved," he added.

a University of Southern California online survey -
“Coronavirus Disruption Project”! sounds very trustworthy.

people love the shut-downs/lock-downs, say the pollsters.

29 Apr: Daily Mail: More than a quarter of Britons don’t want coronavirus lockdown eased even if the government’s ‘five tests’ are passed
By James Tapsfield
Research by YouGov found 28 per cent want the lockdown to stay in full even if the conditions set for starting to return to normal life are met.

Some 22 per cent would like to see more shops open, 11 per cent schools up and running, and a tenth say regions should be released at different times.
Just 4 per cent want the lockdown lifted entirely, according to the survey for the (RUPERT MURDOCH’S) Times...

Despite Downing Street insisting that curbs remain in place until at least May 7 there are signs that the rules are already being relaxed in the face of growing Tory alarm over the economic impact...
A separate Ipsos MORI poll yesterday found 70 per cent of the public believed convinced restrictions should not be eased until the deadly disease has been ‘fully contained’...

I have a ten pound Butterball turkey I’m going to brine, then dry rub and cook in a smoker this weekend. Seeing how I did the yard last week, may clean one of the vehicles this weekend, too. I like the lineup of westerns on all day on ME TV, that I keep on in the shop.

Point is, my life style has really not changed at all.

In some respects I have gotten a lot of what I would want out of lockdown nonsense.

I can show I can work remotely a few days a week, I sleep in on Saturdays since my wife’s running events are cancelled, traffic is very light, made a little progress in an unfinished room, cleaned the garage, fiddled with the vintage cb750k, advanced Willys jeep surgery and preservation, and somewhat better nerves.

However, the price is too high just for my comfort. I hope for some normalcy for the rest of the citizenry.

LOL, I can’t argue with the commute to work, a fifty-foot walk from the bedroom to the home office.

Sorry. I don’t buy this. It sounds more like the frog becoming more acclimated to the “comforting” slight but rising heat in the pot, on the way to being boiled, when he’s too weak to get out. By that time, no more “comforts of home”...it will be PURE HELL ON EARTH. And make NO mistake: THIS is the goal of the Democrat Party / Deep State communists, and THIS has been their GREATEST crisis to exploit since 9/11. This very temporary comfort of not working is going to result in our society’s greatest pain, and rapid descent into dystopia.

When you incorporate a lifestyle/habbit change for more than 21 days it becomes your new normal. We are so screwed!
