Won’t know for sure until much later this year.
It’s a CNN story. Nuff said.
Yep - and the odds are that many in Sweden eschewed the “social distancing” which may have bumped the numbers up...but time will tell.
RE: Wont know for sure until much later this year.
If, God forbid, a second wave re-appears much later during the colder months, we shall see whether Sweden’s “herd immunity” approach worked better. For now, it’s too soon to tell.
Pay now or pay later, you pay anyway. It depends on HOW MUCH you will have to pay.
There are only two things government does well; kill people and sell monopolies.
Government pretty much sucks at everything else.
Sweden is the turd in the globalist’s punch bowl.
supposedly- according to some anyways- people can reinfected by this virus- so how is herd immunity going to help if that is truly the case? IF, and it’s a big if- this virus infects more than once, then there is no such thing as immunity- but let’s not forget=- tests have been faulty right along- so who knows if people have gotten it twice or more or not?
I always tell my lib dimwit friends that Trump is critical of Sweden’s response to corona.
I tell them Sweden did a full lock down and those morons NEVER fecking check....
Sad...
...And IF herd immunity doesn’t work and you can catch it again, how will a vaccine help?
Sweden’s case fatality rate is > 12%.
Implying that they aren’t testing any but the sickest patients.
Their cases are vastly understated. Even as their deaths per population are higher than their neighbors. (But not higher than Italy as flubros point out.)
Sweden will not have the second wave that wimpy countries are going to have. I always knew Swedes were smart. Now if they would just get rid of their ultra-liberal government!
don’t know- unless it makes it less severe- perhaps herd immunity will make it a bit less severe second time around too- i dunno-
Way too soon to draw conclusions about the Swedish approach...at a minimum wait and see how their population fares when the second wave materializes.
If passive antibodies don’t help against reinfection, then how can a vaccine actually help you?
Thats a lot of blather and huff to obscure the fact that Sweden has probably achieved herd immunity with as many, if not fewer, deaths than will have to be achieved by the other countries under house arrest who are also causing great economic damage to their populace.
Why wouldn't you try to build herd immunity now, while the temps are getting warmer and people can go outside and live healthier lives compared to being stuck in a room and inactive?
Waiting until the cold weather returns and everybody's resistance begins to fade is a terrible idea.
A Flat curve has the same area underneath it as steep curve...Total deaths are the same.
A steep curve gets back to normal 3X sooner than a flat curve.
If the media was honest, they would tell people this.
Are the 20K less deaths worth the price we paid in shutting down the economy? Forget the additional $6 trillion in new debt, and just consider the loss in personal wealth and sweat equity. Or the damage done to the education of our children. Or the long term impact of not doing "elective" surgery and routine testing and treatment for cancer and other aliments. Or shutting down a major part of our healthcare system.
Now that we have real data, it is obvious that the CV is far less deadly than first thought. If we knew then what we know now, we should have used the Swedish model. Not even close.
