Masks for everyone is how we squash it.

Too many essential employees and too many shoppers for essential items aren’t wearing them, so it’s still spreading.

Note that the masks are basically useless.

They’re “N95”, which means they’re designed to screen out 95% of particles, like from grinding or smoke ... not 100%, and they aren’t fine enough to stop viruses. (That’s why they’re only a few bucks each.)

But everyone seems to think they’re some kind of impenetrable barrier!

Oh, green steaming piles of equine solid waste. Masks are nothing but (1) a silly-looking way to virtue-signal, and (2) a way for totalitarian-minded governmental entities to prolong control over the pearl-clutching portion of the population. The rest of us have lives to live and jobs to get back to.

Masks are largely nothing but virtue-signaling. They help if you feel ill and are going to cough or sneeze (somewhat block the trajectory of your stuff). They help keep you from inhaling droplets from a nearby sneezer or cougher. But, by and large, they don’t do a lot of good.

https://annals.org/aim/fullarticle/2764367/effectiveness-surgical-cotton-masks-blocking-sars-cov-2-controlled-comparison

While there seems to be some contradictory opinions, the data seems to indicate that surgical masks are not particularly effective in limiting the spread of the virus. The homemade cloth masks likely are even less effective. An N95 respirator can be effective, but only if the user is properly trained in its use and a proper fit test is done. Don’t confuse N95 respirators with the masks that most people are wearing. A dust mask or a handkerchief or bandana wrapped around one’s face are likely doing very little good.

So the doctor behind me (6 feet) at the grocery store wasn’t wearing a mask. We started talking and he said the masks aren’t effective since they’re too porous for the virus. The only thing they’re going to do is give people a lot of bacterial infections in their lungs because they’re not clean and the heavy, warm moisture when you breath. We are not going to be able to control the virus. We’re going to have to let it run it’s course. Let’s not destroy the country in the process.

Masks are essentially useless. Most aren't fine enough to actually filter out the viral particles, and people don't even wear them correctly - plenty of people cover mouth but not nose, wear it under their chin, have a beard so there's no seal, continue wearing it for longer than it's good for, then wear it multiple days. They don't follow decon procedures AT ALL - do YOU even know the proper way to remove PPE without spreading contamination? Hint, no touching keys or cell or other while out, getting in/out of your car, etc etc. A lot of people wearing "masks" just have a bandanna wrapped around their face. Sure, it'll protect you from dust and wind, but that's completely useless for medical issues. Many people just have cloth and rubber bands, a tshirt, etc.
Hell, I even saw one lady wearing a full respirator, but I'd bet dollars to donuts she hadn't changed out her canisters since she bought it.

Not to mention the health issues with long-term wearing of a mask - as it gets damp from breath, it tends to collect more particles from the air like dust, pollens, or other freefloating bacteria/viri. They restrict your oxygen intake, as breaths are harder to pull in, plus you're breathing in half of your just-exhaled CO2. There's a poster on here who actually had a near-medical emergency due to low oxygen levels from his mask.
Not to mention masks are crazy uncomfortable and rebreathing your air isn't pleasant anyway.
