Trump forgoes WH press briefing for the first time since Easter weekend

For the first time since Easter weekend, President Trump did not hold a press briefing Saturday at the White House with the coronavirus task force, a move that could signal a change in the frequency of the president's appearances in the weeks to come.

The White House press pool's call time on Saturday was pushed from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., and at 5:11 p.m. the same day, a travel/photo lid was called.

Since March, Trump and Vice President Pence have given almost 50 daily press briefings to update the country on the administration's ongoing response to the coronavirus pandemic that has killed more than 53,000 people in the U.S.

Trump and his task force held an unusually short briefing on Friday, running about 25 minutes. Trump's briefing the previous Friday lasted around an hour and 45 minutes.

A report from Axios on Friday said the White House is reportedly planning to scale back virus-related briefings and may no longer appear daily.

Both the administration's reported decision to scale back press briefings and Trump's absence from the White House briefing room podium come after the president's controversial comments Thursday during a press conference where he suggested the possibility of treating coronavirus patients by hitting their bodies with light or using disinfectant injections.

Trump took to Twitter about 45 minutes later, addressing the topic of his briefings. "What is the purpose of having White House News Conferences when the Lamestream Media asks nothing but hostile questions, & then refuses to report the truth or facts accurately," Trump tweeted. He added, "They get record ratings, & the American people get nothing but Fake News. Not worth the time & effort!"

I agree. Big Media is the enemy.

I bet if CNN continues to make demands there won’t likely be one today, or a “statement” and then “bye!”

True. The MSM gets record ratings, while Trump’s own ratings have taken a big hit over the past month, as evidenced by lots of evidence from various quarters, including pro-Trump outfits like Rasmussen. Trump must have read the polls, and seen that these briefings are a net negative for him.

Fire the White House press. Take away their access. Open the news process. The technology to open the news process exists

The media and the democrats (but I repeat myself...) have been cruel to him. They don’t care to hear anything that he says, but they record every word of his and subject every word to an intense examination for the purpose of turning it against him.

The media did to Bush what they’re doing to Trump. They created the meme “Katrina” and stuck it on Bush. The media and the dems are passionate about what they are doing: bringing Trump down. For them, it’s the holy grail. They worship the “journalists” who brought Nixon down.

Trump has finally got it. I think the bleach thing was the last straw. He was asking people to find out if it might help. He’s not a chemist or a doctor. It’s a legitimate question, even if most people know that bleach is a nasty poison. He didn’t. The decent thing to do is to tell him that it will not help. Instead, they changed what he said and had it all over the news. They got the head of a bleach company to declare that no one should take bleach internally.

Trump has realized that it’s not worth it. They didn’t care what he is doing to resolve the problem. They only care about bringing him down.

I think refraining from these daily Coronavirus Task Force Briefings is a good thing! It shows that we’re moving forward into the reopening phase, which I believe will help the markets comeback, but more importantly, be a sign for desperate Americans that we’re opening back up! It will also keep these POS Fake News Reporters from grandstanding!

Please see thread I shared earlier today. One important perspective to consider is that Trump has 45% approval compared to Obama’s 46% at this time in 2012 and Obama’s was accompanied by adulation from the media and entertainment industry elite and an absence of a crisis situation such as this one.

I read that. The more pertinent historical context is that in a crisis, when the commander in chief is leading the country, there is a "rally-around-the-flag" effect that happens, which boosts his popularity. That is the benchmark for Trump, and that did not happen here.

A national crisis through which a POTUS is leading the nation is supposed to make the POTUS MORE popular, not less.

From friday:

“Earlier today before the briefing, a White House official instructed the print pooler to take CNN’s seat in the briefing room because the seating would be swapped for the briefing,” Chris Johnson, the chief political reporter and White House reporter for the Washington Blade, wrote in a press pool report. “Given the seating assignment is under the jurisdiction of White House Correspondents’ Association, not the White House, pooler refused to move.”

Johnson said the dispute continued until the Secret Service stepped in.

“The White House official then informed the print pooler swapping wasn’t an option and the Secret Service was involved,” Johnson wrote. “Again, pooler refused to move, citing guidance from the WHCA. The briefing proceeded with both CNN and print pooler sitting in their respective assigned seats.”

Instead of the eneMedia twisting PDJT words the bastards will have to make up their own lies. One or two might be capable.
