APRIL 3 - Pawn Stars' frontman Rick Harrison jokingly asked Thursday, "What did you do during the quarantine?" But, as he leans on one of the jewelry counters full of toilet paper at Gold and Silver Pawn, his sense of humor also reveals his confidence that Las Vegas will be back stronger than ever after the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.
"Normally, we have 2,500 to 3,000 people a day coming in here this time of year," said Harrison. "And look around, theres nobody here."
Harrison also knows his shop and other pawn shops around town will get busy in the coming days as families become strapped for cash to pay bills.
That's why he says Gold and Silver Pawn will try to help.
"We've lowered the interest rate on items. We're giving people more time to pick their stuff up. We understand. I've been in this town for a long time. It's given a lot to me and I always try to give it back," Harrison said. Harrison also has a historical perspective on the COVID-19 downturn, and why it's different from the Spanish Flu outbreak in the early 1900s, or the Great Depression following World War I.
"They tightened the money supply after the Great Depression, which kept it going. We have the stimulus package," he said, adding, "so, I think we can bounce back really quick, especially with the malaria drug, I really can't pronounce it."
Coincidentally, Harrison has an empty bottle of the malaria drug he can't pronounce - hydroxychloroquine - prescribed to then-Senator Barack Obama prior to a trip the former president made to Africa. The anti-malaria drug is now showing promise as a treatment against the coronavirus, though experts say more research is needed.

Coincidentally, Harrison has an empty bottle of the malaria drug he can’t pronounce - hydroxychloroquine - prescribed to then-Senator Barack Obama prior to a trip the former president made to Africa. The anti-malaria drug is now showing promise as a treatment against the coronavirus, though experts say more research is needed.
So hydroxy is safe enough for Sen Obama back in the day, but FDA doesnt want it prescribed to COVID patients unless theyre in the hospital?
Does Trump need to clean out the FDA? (and CDC while hes at it?)
Dream on,pal! The last thing folks are gonna be doing for a while is gambling!
He could start by paying people fair market value for their crap...
People don’t mind getting screwed, as long as they’re on TV.
his store will do well- people will be desperate for money, and will bring in all their antiques to him- to get a FINAcial boost to get them goign again-

He sells at market value. So he has to buy at under-market. And btw I dont see a lot of crap on the show. There are some very interesting items!
Wait a minute. I have a friend who’s an expert on Las Vegas. Let me give him a call.

It would be hard to make a profit if you pay retail prices for your inventory.
It’s Harrison’s money. He pays what he believes is reasonable. It is capitalism at its finest. If the people want more money, they can go try somewhere else.
lol
I love some of their experts, esp the historian with the beard and broad hat

You dont understand. Rick has to pay to get that signed picture of Abraham Lincoln framed. Plus the market for gold coins is soft now. Plus the expert says that your genuine Babe Ruth Yankee uniform is only worth $5.
(Did I miss any of his lines?)

I’ll disagree on that one, Jim.
I know a guy who goes to weekly AA meetings. Since this Kung Flu started the meetings are packed. And many of them are gambling addicts. The casinos are closed so the best they can do is buy scratch-offs at the convenience store. They are going nuts.
Once the casinos open up they will be packed.
“He could start by paying people fair market value for their crap”
he buys wholesale and sells retail, just like all retail businesses ... the people who sell to him at wholesale prices are basically too lazy and/or are in too much of a hurry to research their items themselves and do the photographic and documentary work necessary to list their items on ebay, deal with a bunch of nimrods asking stupid questions for days or weeks, and then box the stuff up and ship it ...
anyone who’s in a hurry to convert goods into instant cash is generally going to take a beating, regardless of the goods and regardless of who they sell to ... i see it all the time with friends who are willing to buy firearms and vehicles at fire-sale prices from people in a hurry to sell, and in the case of vehicles, willing to put the labor and money into fixing them up and detailing them to increase their sales value, something the sellers often could do or have done themselves if they weren’t so lazy or in such a big hurry ...
How can you say that and not mention book lady Rebecca?
“He could start by paying people fair market value for their crap... “
Amen. The old man was the worst of them. Tight-fisted SOB.
I recently had to liquidate my firearms, I could have gotten 3X what I got had sold it bit by bit to the right buyers.
This man is in the throes of denial.
Las Vegas has suffered a fatal blow and the exodus will be legendary.
Las Vegas has suffered a fatal blow and the exodus will be legendary
What are you basing that on?
I see wide open places like Nevada as the winners and cramped places like NYC as the losers. People are going to start moving away from the corona hotspots imo
“Once the casinos open up they will be packed.”
For a day or two in celebration. Gambling addicts never last long against the house.
After that, ghost town.
20% of historic tourist traffic with all restrictions lifted worldwide is the very best that can be hoped for.
