Agreed. (1) At 330,000,000, there are FAR more of us than all of “them” combined; and (2) They CANNOT put everyone in jail. It’s a logistical impossibility.
The reactions in these comments are misplaced. Bill Gates is not the enemy, and behind the scenes, at least, he is likely a moderating force.

I support our President in how he has handled this pandemic. He is doing great work. I favor a staged reopening that is not all at once but is much faster than most anyone is proposing. I also believe that the initiative should not generally come from government but rather from self-interested individuals and institutions.
But I also believe that blaming Bill and Melinda Gates is a complete misdirect. Futile. There are better targets for the wrath of Trump supporters.

This IS the jail.
I believe it was very intentional, calculated even. The elderly and infirm are a burden on their resources - resources he’d rather expend buying votes and power. So the decision was a two-fer for him. He gets to shake off some “dead weight” (pardon the indelicacy but I’m sure that’s how he sees it) and he gets to pump up his numbers and use that as a platform for his own plans and gains.

I work in this field. I read many hours each day. I have never met Bill or Melinda Gates but I know their work very, very well; and I know the Gates Foundation. There is an egregious global health literature, especially pre-2000, that obsesses on population control. I believe without doubt that both Bill and Melinda Gates have played an important role in moving global health OFF of that path.
They play in the same sandbox as those population control types, but in the realm of contraception, just as one example, they are adamant in building a case for giving parents more choice in planning their families rather than reducing overall birth rates as a goal.
If you read the full blog post, Bill Gates is much more reasonable than other lefties about, for example, opening the economy back up again. This, of course, does not stop the Washington Post and others from twisting his words, which is what they do. If you read what Gates has to say in his full blog post, I’m betting that you will disagree with a lot, but I think you would come away thinking that he’s a rigorous thinker and reasonable on policy.
In any event, Bill and Melinda Gates are not a good target for harsh words. There are many more obvious targets, including the WHO, which is indeed in China’s pocket, did botch this whole pandemic and more generally has lost its way.
The only friggin innovation we need is to let America be America.................Oh, and get our production lines the F' outa Chicom!
