Enjoying Pavarotti...

The interesting thing about the aria that Pavarotti sings is the minimal accompaniment that Verdi uses. The tenor is out there backed by an oboe and a pair of violas -- musically naked -- and he has to deliver his first big aria with no warmup but a short recitative.

The operatic stage is littered with tenors who couldn't deliver that first big number.
