In death, he has become famous as a cautionary tale about the risks of mindlessly following the armchair medical advice President Donald Trump has dispensed from the White House podium.
But friends of 68-year-old Gary Lenius, the Arizona man who passed away last month from drinking a fish tank cleaner that contained an ingredient, chloroquine phosphate, that Trump had touted as a potential coronavirus cure, say they are still struggling to understand what drove an engineer with an extensive science background to do something so wildly out of character.

“Wanda had post-traumatic stress disorder and anger issues due to her experience at the company.”
PTSD from being passed over for promotion?
Was she shot at? Did she witness friends being blown to bits by IED’s while working at John Deere?
I think not, and I bet the lawyer has a “working relationship” with the shrink to fleece companies with frivolous lawsuits.
She needs to be in a padded cell and subjected to daily electroshock therapy.
Her lawyer needs to be disbarred and thrown in prison.
Her shrink needs to have his license to practice revoked and thrown in prison.
And all three need to be counter sued by John Deere.
Earlier this century I was getting inquiries from a guy wanting to know how the air suspension of a Lincoln MKVII worked.
Days later he called me and said he was a lawyer in OK. Stated that a engineer was found crushed dead under his MKVII. Said the vehicle appeared normal, there were no jacks or jack stands around the vehicle.
"Any guesses as to what happened?"
*Yes. Curiosity killed the engineer.
That vehicle was a constant height vehicle for weight changes added or removed. There is a 45 second time delay for changes if the ignition position stays same and no doors are opened or closed (no venting if a door remanes open).
The engineer manipulated the vehicle with the igition on, by adding weight (his body on the front end) and when height change was corrected for his added weight, got off and crawled under the front end.
The front end was now higher than normal due to his weight removed and 45 seconds later the front end lowered on top of him due to excessive height, and he died.
Wonder what the value of his estate was?
not suspicious. He didn’t read the package. The part that says, Poison. Do not consume.
He must have also been a very HEAVY engineer . . .
Wanda kilt Gary.
Pretty simple
His deranged trump hating wife murdered him.
My speculation is he was murdered by his severely TDS infected wife. The death of her husband is a small price to pay to cause PDJT trouble just to satisfy her thirst for PDJT blood.
This is the problem with madness unchecked. I spirals into an implosion.
Interesting,
I work with a lot
Of Engineers,
Fresh out of
(Hi) school.
.
Not too Knowledgeable.
But everybody says
They’ll pick it up,,,
Ha!
Thermometers,,,
Ha!
I’ll remember That!
Most engineers of his vintage, were required to take two semesters of chemistry. Why wasn’t he?
He probably never saw the package.
Sit on the front end of any conventional vehicle.
Did you change the fender well height relative to the tires? Yes you did.
That is a height change relative to weight.
You some sort of engineer?
When I had my shop, I enjoyed banter with engineers trying to figure out problems with their Lincoln's suspension.
KISS.
—> Speaking as an engineer for my entire career. <—
I’m sorry..
Let me please add that the thoughtless actions of the now deceased man who happened to be an engineer in no way should reflect on any normal thinking person. The guy intentionally ingested a detergent. Any thinking person would have thought to look at the MSDS or similar to find if the stuff was toxic. The thermometer line was a joke.
Lincoln’s have a
AirBag suspension,
IIRC.
It's not so simple to a bunch of posters here, who seem to think that his engineering degree has something to do with whether or not he killed himself.
(Shaking head.)
There is no evidence that he intentionally ingested anything. From the facts in the article, it looks far more likely that his wife intentionally poisoned him.
Yes, my business of 19 years was Bagmaster Air Suspension.
Ford (FoMoCo) called all air suspension systems airsprings.
