With all due respect to our hard-working cops, they need to get themselves up to speed on the Constitution’s division of federal and state powers with respect to enforcing the law.

Cops also need to be able to get advice from Constitution-respecting judges, such judges not necessarily easy to find.

Insights welcome.

What nobody likes to talk about is that the U.S. Constitution was drafted for a system of civil government that did NOT have full-time law enforcement officers. The function of a “law enforcement officer” for 100+ years after this country was founded was NOT to protect the citizenry. It was to protect the rights of accused criminals (by ensuring they had trials by jury) from citizens who were perfectly capable of protecting themselves.
