Tucker Carlson asked a crucial question last night, making the case that the ‘lockdowns’ haven’t worked as advertised. Which leads to all-important follow up: If they haven’t worked, why are we causing the death by other means while destroying the economy in keeping its ‘non-essential’ parts locked down? Defining terms: How much of the economy has been ‘locked down’?
Let’s begin by pointing out that was never a total ‘lockdown’ or ‘shut down’ as implied in the authoritarian leftist media. Trying to obtain a precise valuation on how much of the economy was ‘locked down’ has been difficult. Estimates as low as 20 – 40% have been bandied about and it should be obvious that it was never 100%. Essential services have been up always been up and running.
Why is this an important question? Because the words we use frame the discussion. They literally set the terms of the debate, including certain concepts while excluding others. This is why the authoritarian left sets a high value in controlling the language.
Plainly speaking, the terms ‘lockdown’ or ‘shut down’ have certain implications, as is the case with the phrase ‘reopen’. The false implication is that the entire economy is akin to a light switch, with it either ‘on’ or ‘off’. That is clearly not the case; the essential parts of the economy are still functioning. By all indications, that is most of the economy, with only parts effectively ‘shutdown’.

I’ll go out on a limb here and say the Left prefers a depression to a second Trump term. They’ve got the media on their side and Trump knows it all too well.

I’d say 20-40% is low as a lockdown estimate here in Pennsylvania. The governor shut down all “non-life-sustaining” businesses. As far as the consumer is concerned, you can buy food and gasoline and I don’t know what else. I’d say we’re closer to 70% locked down.
The purpose of the lockdown was to assist and aid frontline medical personal in avoiding an onslaught of ICU cases.
As far as I can see, that goal was achieved, and I don’t mind having done it.
Extending the lockdown to include some other nebulous future criteria is a bunch of BS that no one should accept. Don’t change the rules in the middle of the game, not even going to let you, politicians can go to Hell.
We're still locked down because politicians and experts have changed the reason to "control of the virus". The real reason is that politicians -- even mediocre politicians such as most are -- are loathe to give up their vast, new, self-anointed powers over American citizens and have learned that the Constitution and Bill of Rights can be suspended with full acquiesence of Americans if Americans can be frightened enough. QED.
That’s true, clearly,but it’s worse. The reason that America is not opening NOW is b/c even GOP leaders are loathe to admit that they screwed up massively. And that includes our President.
There is a large segment of the population that loves to feel the boot of the Government on their necks. This crap has allowed them to live out their dreams and they are taking full advantage of it. Don’t expect it to end soon.

RATs could ever do or say. After all, both of these hacks are RATs.

Sorry, but there simply wasn’t going to be a massive onslaught of COVID patients. How do I know, because the flu victims were the same number this year so all your anti-virus measures didn’t work at all. Besides, it takes a real dunce to think someone wearing a mask is all it takes to stop a virus.
