Dem lawmakers eye 'opportunity' for historic expansion of government amid coronavirus crisis

Former Obama White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel said during the 2008 financial crisis that lawmakers should “never let a crisis go to waste,” and many Democratic lawmakers appear to be heeding that advice -- using the coronavirus pandemic as a jumping-off point to renew calls for a historic expansion of government.

Emanuel repeated his mantra again last month, this time in connection with the new crisis. “Start planning for the future. This has to be the last pandemic that creates an economic depression. We're going to have more pandemics, but this has to be the last economic depression,” he said.

The view that the crisis should be an axis for deep, long-lasting change was on display during negotiations over the $2 trillion stimulus package, in which House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn reportedly said that the package was “a tremendous opportunity to restructure things to fit our vision.”

With a some more months of this, the progressives may be able to rightly say, “We won, you lost” for another decade or so. Like it or not, we’re heading for a great depression if this government over-reach isn’t corrected soon. Large numbers of people being out of work, out of money and depressed is near-perfect fodder for socialism and communism.

C-SPAN, House is in session. They are all wearing masks. Funny!!

First order of business is to form committee to investigate the reaction to COVID, aka, “impeach Trump.”

Going into this we already had government consuming an unsustainable level of resources that were being produced [probably in large measure subsidized by cheap CHICOM crap].

National productivity has collapsed and there is far less for the government to take.

Which is not to say that there is not a role for government spending to break a liquidity logjam that causes cascades of defaults and the collapse of productive enterprise. But after a few trillion of spending we have probably done what we can there.

Where do they all go for lunch?

And how do they sleep with their secretaries and practice social distancing at the same time?

Catered in no doubt. They meet in the party cloakrooms, take off the masks, and laugh at the gullibility of the public.

In turn, I see a historic opportunity for Republican lawmakers to force indigent states into bankruptcy and the subsequent liquidation of their public employee pension funds, requiring much smaller, leaner, and more efficient governments.

All that is required is developing a sufficient deafness to Karen's squawks.

“Never let a crisis go to waste.”

It really demonstrates how sick the Democrats are once again. A deadly pandemic starts sweeping the world and they get excited at the “opportunities” it presents for them to exploit.
