During a press briefing Tuesday, Newsom indicated there is no specific timeline for modifying restrictions but said Californians should not expect a return to “normal” life until there is herd immunity and a vaccine exists for COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.

How in the hell do you expect people to go along with staggered schedules?

That will require employers of parents with children in school to stagger their hours and I can tell you that ain't happening.

Service organizations like Elks, Masons, Chamber of Commerce, Rotary and more cannot possibly hold a meeting with only 10 people.

Many already struggle with membership and you will kill their ability to meet in large groups.

It will wreak further havoc on the economy to fulfill your lofty dream of waiting until we achieve herd immunity and get a vaccine, neither of which are absolutes.

Hope is not a strategy.

The prospect of mass gatherings is negligible at best until we get to herd immunity and we get to a vaccine,” Newsom said.

Newsom’s statement on mass gatherings in California came in response to a question about how he anticipates potentially easing some of the stay-at-home restrictions will affect upcoming holidays such as Memorial Day and Fourth of July.

“When you suggest June, July, August, [mass gatherings] are unlikely,” Newsom said.

“We could conceivably stagger the individual students to come in as cohorts, some in the morning, some in the afternoon,” Newsom said. “We have to work of course with our unions and management and others to figure something like that out, but those are the conversations that we are already having.”

There’s no vaccine for the common cold - what makes anyone think there will be one for this?

Major sports won’t restart with fans until perhaps next spring it seems.

So much for my baseball employment (if the season can start fully by May 1, we can return to work) and I’ll be happily employed again.

How do you get herd immunity if your community is hiding in their homes, Governor?

California, Oregon, Washington, Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island. Those are all states with Democrat governors, yes? (and Virginia is not yet added but IMHO would seem to have a chance with current trends). If they hold off ending shelter in place orders, then collectively, they strangle the US economy (with flyover country left perhaps fully recovered and otherwise left to wonder what is wrong), and with the economy tanked, a Democrat has a shot at the Presidency in November. It's getting difficult to avoid gone with the wind level melodrama in forecasts... :-(

Yet more and more Californians in my area, North San Diego County, are returning to work and starting to return to “normal” in any way they can, regardless of the edicts coming from Sacramento.

Newsom’s complete command and control state government is more illusion than any politician in this state will admit, IMO.

All about control. Power. Money. He will sooner than later be forced to reopen the state whether he wants to or not, IMO.

Gee, we've come a long way from "flattening the curve", haven't we? Now it's "herd immunity AND a vaccine"...

Move the goalposts much?

Can’t get a vaccine for coronaviruses.

Is herd immunity proven?

Better to have widely available the hydroxychloroquine + azithromax/doxycycline + zinc.
