President Donald Trump has blasted China's official coronavirus death statistics as 'impossible' with Dr Deborah Birx concurring that Beijing failed its 'moral obligation' for transparency in the pandemic.
At a White House briefing on Saturday, Dr Birx was presenting a chart with coronavirus mortality rates by country when Trump interjected, saying 'does anybody really believe this number?'
Trump pointed at China at the bottom of the bar chart, showing a mortality rate of 0.33 per 100,000 population, but marked with an asterisk to indicate the unreliability of the data.
China's rate is orders of magnitude below other countries, including the U.S. with 11.24 deaths per 100,000 people. Belgium topped the chart at a horrifying 45.2.
Birx, the administration's coronavirus response coordinator, immediately chimed in to back up Trump's skepticism, saying: 'I put China on there so basically you can see how unrealistic this would be.'

Unreliable? How about simply untruthful and deceptive.
Untruthful and deceptive are likely.
I would suggest that in a nation as large and densely populated as China, there is no totally effective capability for collecting much less disseminating in a timely manner the various types of virus data.
It is totally foolish to assume China has the “down to the county” level of disease data collection and reporting we have in America. To assume parity, you must assume that the people at the working level actually care about reporting and actually about gathering the data.
When you are up to your ass in alligators, you lose track of draining the swamp.
If it is true in China, it is five times as true in India or Brazil. It is ten times as true in all of Africa except maybe Egypt.
Europe is probably better, but Italy and Spain belie that thought
“Communists” and “Moral Obligations” is an oxymoron.
China will not face any consequences from this. They steal and take resources right now and there is no consequences.
OVER 21 million cell phone accounts in China have gone dormant..... Where did those people go?
I suspect that they are dead from virus.
Bill Gates wants a 15% reduction in population. Sounds like China has a good start on that number.
Granted that its hard to focus on stats in the heat of battle but then again what incentives does the CCP have to collect and report factual data? As we have repeatedly seen China has little regard for the truth when it is inconvenient for them.
I will not argue with your point.
My point is that China and many others lack the sheer ability and administrative sophistication to handle a severe health emergency. We are very fortunate.
Nitpickers and fault finders are as we post finding fault that will ultimately be laid to rest as Trump’s fault
