Shocking Report Shows Half The Homeless At Boston Shelter Tested Positive For COVID-19: And None Had Symptoms

Researchers and clinicians who have ‘experimented’ with random mass testing for COVID-19 have made some pretty amazing – and amazingly depressing – discoveries. Yesterday, we shared a report about one sweeping antibody testing regime set up by researchers in Santa Clara County in California.

The study found that the estimated level of novel coronavirus penetration in the county was “50-80% higher” than what had been recorded.

If that isn’t enough to terrify every day trader who ratcheted up their exposure heading into the weekend, a news story about another surprising discovery – this time on the East Coast – has just come to our attention.

After a cluster of cases involving residents of a South Boston homeless shelter, Massachusetts public health officials tested every resident of the Pine Street shelter in Boston’s South End.

The results have garnered the attention of the CDC, which is “actively investigating the situation,” according to Boston 25 News.

The CDC is now “actively looking into” into universal COVID-19 testing at Pine Street Inn homeless shelter.

The broad-scale testing took place at the shelter in Boston’s South End a week and a half ago because of a small cluster of cases there.

Of the 397 people tested, 146 people tested positive. Not a single one had any symptoms.

“It was like a double knockout punch. The number of positives was shocking, but the fact that 100 percent of the positives had no symptoms was equally shocking,” said Dr. Jim O’Connell, president of Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program, which provides medical care at the city’s shelters.

O’Connell said that the findings have changed the future of COVID-19 screenings at Boston’s homeless shelters.

The big takeaway, if you couldn’t tell, is that a pattern is developing here:

Thanks @57 and I thought the same thing.

With that said, I am still surprised this virus has not impacted the homeless community more severely given their health, hygiene, and density in shelters.

It is pretty obvious that we do not understand much about this virus and how it spreads. Based on the numbers we are seeing there is a wide disparity between and even within separate communities.

Why is that depressing? Seems like it should be great news. That many more people don’t have to worry about getting infected. They were infected and are doing fine.

My husband and I also had something WEIRD back in February. No fever, no cough, but literally could not breathe through the nose. I was using nasal sprays every hour and taking everything anti-inflammatory that I could think of. Husband missed three days of work and he NEVER calls in sick. Then on the 3rd day, I only needed the sprays every other hour 😄, and the next day I was breathing almost normally. But the fatigue after all that was brutal. Never had anything like it before. It was not a cold, it was not the flu, but it was completely debilitating.

Math is hard.

The linked article claims 50 to 80% higher. That statement in the article links to another article that claims 50 to 80 FOLD, which would be 5000 to 8000% higher. There is a difference.

Mine was not much. My wife’s was bad and went to the doc. She said it’s probably not covid because no fever. Again the refusal to test for covid as the symptoms don’t exactly match.

I have an incredibly good immune system (this is a problem and makes me sick other ways) but I get minor cold symptoms for only a day or three. My severe autoimmune disease has this as a minor benefit.

The test is flawed.....

Then is Iceland using the same flawed test? They tested a random 10% of their population and found 50% had or have had the WuFlu.

Why is this depressing? This is very good news if the tests are valid.

Iceland has tested one-tenth of its population for coronavirus at random and found HALF of people have the disease without realising...

Unless you have it and are symptoms free and I read that is common.

I read that too, but I do not know the extent of natural immunity people might have, and I doubt the experts do either.

The Chinese screwed up - the first attack should have been basically unnoticeable or an effective killing machine. Instead they’ll have to piggy back the next virus on top of this one... the ‘second wave’...

Sad for them...

Forewarned is forearmed. We are warned - and we are ready.
