Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, is leading a bipartisan effort to wean the United States from its reliane on China for drugs and medical supplies by turning to Middle East ally Israel.
Cruz and Sen. Chris Coons, D-Del., are seeking $12 million to enhance partnerships between companies in the U.S. and Israel "to develop innovative medical projects aimed at detecting, treating, and curing COVID-19," Breaking Israel News reported.
"I've long said that China poses the most significant, long-term geopolitical threat to the United States," Cruz wrote on Twitter. "Our dependence on China for life-saving medications and treatments is deeply problematic.
The senator argued that Israel "is not only our friend and ally, but also a global leader in medicine with which we already cooperate on exactly those issues."

RELY ON THE UNITED STATES AND ONLY THE UNITED STATES.
Sheesh we learn our lessons so hard in this country.
ISRAEL has innovative ideas in medicine, water conservation, agriculture, weaponry...
I’d much rather encourage their enterprise than China’s.
It ain’t America bro.
Things change in this world in a heartbeat.
Made in the USA is the only thing I want to see.
Agree
I agree with your statement 100%.
Israel is a reliable ally with Bibi in charge but, there are a great many Leftists living in Israel. And, if they gain control they may not be so reliable under Leftist rule.
I am a supporter of Israel but, THE lesson learned from this pandemic is the USA Must be self-sufficient in all areas of National Security and Medicine is MOST CERTAINLY in that category.
I agree with you. AMERICA first.
How about relying on America for our vital needs?
Israel has an outstanding pharmaceutical industry. I’ve got a few items from them here that help a lot (and which nobody else is making). And Israel sent a pretty large quantity of these meds to USA (for free) when it was first determined that they deal with this corona virus..... Allies support allies. But certainly USA can make these meds too! They’re not complicated and America should be able to make them, too. India makes millions of them ....and is exporting them to over 100 countries ...
with the greatest respect and thanks to India, USA can do it too! Let’s buy from our allies but let’s get our country more self-reliant again as soon as possible. Nixon’s “opening to Communist China” had some positive aspects but the wholesale export of our manufacturing base to the commies was, is MOST UNWISE
Have we no self-reliance
How about JUST RELY ON AMERICA?
I dont want to kiss Chinas ass, and I dont want to kiss Israels either.
We should bring as much of it here to the US as possible. Even if we don’t actively make the drugs, just have some mothballed facilities and the raw materials on hand so that we can turn them on in an instant and churn them out.
Ending reliance on China is a must for many reasons, but most especially now that they actually threatened to deny exports!
Investing in Mexico, Central and South America would also be mutually beneficial for us and them. We could also step up into Africa, and southern Europe (Greece & Italy and Macedonia) to keep a check on China and on the EU.
We just dropped $2.2 trillion and surely trillions more. A few billion invested (not given, but invested) in the right places will go a long way and help a lot of people, be cost competitive, and decentralize supply in the event of catastrophe while creating economic competition for China in other parts of the world that can be close to competitive if given the opportunity.
No, Ted.
America needs to rely on America, and no one else.
We need to be 100% self sustaining as quickly as possible.
How about relying on us?
With all due respect to the Senator — and Israel — the United States should rely on ourselves.
Period.
Is self-reliance an unknown concept?
It's long overdue ... and we should make it so!
It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it. - Upton Sinclair.
Not realistic. Israel is an excellent trading partner and a loyal ally.
Love Israel and Israelis but don’t want the US ever again dependent on another country fr our basic drugs and medical supplies. I’d be happy with Israel supplementing what’s produced in the US.
Id much rather encourage their enterprise than Chinas.
Whats wrong with making this stuff in America?
