Here’s How Much Downstate New York Is Skewing the United States’ Coronavirus Numbers
PJ Media ^ | 18 Apr 2020 | Matt Margolis

I live in New York State. But, I live in Western New York—not New York City, or downstate. If you ask anyone from downstate, they are New Yorkers, I am not. And quite honestly, I’m okay with that. I have no problem with not being lumped in with the downstaters.

Except I still am. New York is a hotspot when it comes to coronavirus cases and deaths, but that’s only because of downstate. Upstate New York’s coronavirus situation pales in comparison to downstate. New York City, in particular, was doomed due to the incompetence of local leaders, as well as other factors, such as population density and its subway system aiding in the spread of the virus.

Personally, I’ve thought for weeks we should be counting downstate New York separately from the rest of the country. So, I looked at the numbers to see what happens when you separate downstate New York from the rest of the country.

Right away we can see that the United States does not “lead the world” in coronavirus cases. Even with downstate New York in the mix, the United States isn’t doing nearly as bad as the mainstream media makes it out to be. But, here’s what happens to the top ten once you treat downstate New York as its own country:

Downstate New York (16,230.65)
Spain (4,100.67)
Belgium (3,208.30)
Switzerland (3,166.40)
Italy (2,851.95)
...

And yet people think Cuomo is doing such a good job. Ha!

you rednecks and heartland folks or whatever you are called are really infatuated and addicted and completely and utterly in live with and absorbed by New York City :-) I find it hysterical :-)

your hick towns are so boring that you got nothing to do but talk about my city :-)

I’ve worked in the world trade center, Rockefeller plaza, the world financial center. It is the best city in the world. Where do you guys see theaters? in a barn? :-)

Buona notte!!

PJ Media demands I turn off my AdBlocker. Sorry. I don’t do that for but a very few sites.

Upstate New York is a different world, isn’t it?

Buffalo is closer to Detroit than it is to New York City. Interesting fact which helps show how parts of upstate New York are quite distant from NYC.

We are upset because we are on lock down when we have almost no cases where we are at. Why should we not be upset when because of New Yorks handling of this we are not able to move about freely?

And why would I want to live on top of my neighbor and below and beside and in front? Sorry I would rather be around a bunch of swine than with a bunch of snooty Dems.

New York is an incredible place. We take note of New York because it’s such a big important city.

And if the truckers stop running, you urban hot shots would be eating rats. You need an attitude adjustment.

Dennis Prager was discussing this on his show recently. He asked, if we saw a disproportionate number of virus cases in Montana, for example, would be have seen the rest of the country shut down because of that? And the answer was no, we would not have shut down the country because of something happening more in Montana than elsewhere.

And some callers to his show agreed, and said they thought that since the media is so concentrated in New York, and New York is such a hot spot, that media coverage has been skewed, because the media are seeing so much happening in their home town.

The big urban cities are the Achilles heel of America. They are totally dependent on us rednecks, country hicks and flat landers.

This makes another case for upstate New York to secede.

Nassau and Suffolk numbers were skewed from NYC people using our hospital systems.

You can be assured no one from Nassau or Suffolk went to a NYC hospital.

And if the truckers stop running, you urban hot shots would be eating rats.

On the upside, they wouldn't be running out of food anytime soon.

The NY city dwellers have always looked down at us hicks from upstate. I have little sympathy for them now.

I’d love to see this run again with New Jersey.

It’s all one centralized mess right there.
