not according to https://www.1000bulbs.com/

I wanted to set up a large array of UV lights to kill the virus and all bugs in our church and the people at https://www.1000bulbs.com/ told me that UV light does NOT kill the virus.

Well.. they are wrong in the sense that they have made a blanket statement that is just plain false on its face.

But, the problem is for them that UV (A,B, or C) light will hurt people if it is strong enough to kill viruses rapidly. This is the same problem with people saying Sunlight doesn’t kill viruses and this is wrong too. But, its time on target.

Lots of data out there and there are wants for $60 that kill bacteria and viruses in seconds but they are held close to the target (Less than an inch) which increase the effect 100 fold.

This article is about a very narrow spectrum UV light that can be bright enough to kill viruses in the air or on surfaces and not damage skin or eyes of the people in the space.

I have one that looks just like this bulb but was bought under a different name. It wouldn’t surprise me if it is the same unit. I tested my UVC light using my old glasses that turn dark in the sunlight. It worked. (I also tested the UVC safety googles to make sure they blocked the light - they did!). Although I just put the lamp in the bathroom over my decon box and hit the light as I close the door.

Above is a 25W UVC light that plugs into a regular socket. It also is the type that adds ozone, so that may or may not be good in your situation. If you put it somewhere where you can’t breath it - that would be fine.

I decon stuff when I get home with a ozone generator in the trunk of an old car. (ozone affects some plastics and rubber).

Both the UVC light and the ozone are not good for N95 masks. I ruined the straps on one mask using ozone. Both of them deteriorate the inner poly filter as well.

Best for masks is hang them inside for 3 to 4 days (I think that is overkill, but that is what the 3M inventer said). Second best is to suspend them with a wood clothing pin in the oven at 170F for 30 minutes. Again - I think that is probably longer than it needs to be, but 15 min vs 30 min is no big deal.
