Sweden's top flight, the Allsvenskan, is set to start on June 14, the Swedish Football Association's (SvFF) chairman Karl-Erik Nilsson has said.
While the Swedish football season traditionally finishes in November, the new league campaign had not yet kicked off because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Although Sweden did not implement a lockdown like many other European nations to deal with the COVID-19 crisis, public gatherings were banned, leading to a proposed April start being postponed.
The Svenska Cupen was already in full swing, however, with the competition at the quarter-final stage.
The SvFF confirmed in a statement on Friday their ambition is to complete the cup, with Nilsson adding he hopes it will not overlap with the revised league schedule.
"The hope is that it [the Svenska Cupen] can be completed," Nilsson, who is also UEFA first vice-president, told Fotbollskanalen. "There are significantly fewer matches left to play and the teams also play for a European place.
"This means we have to start this tournament at the end of May, or early June in order to finish it before the intended Allsvenskan season starts.
"The ambition is for it to be completed before the planned Allsvenskan start, which is scheduled for June 14.

They play football in Sweden?
Seems more like they’ play soccer there.
RE: Seems more like they play soccer there.
Well, they call soccer football elsewhere (see Mexico, they call it futbol ). Why not Sweden?
I think that’s what they call soccer over there.
I could be wrong.
It actually fits better.
I love American football but it probably should be called something else, since the foot is used a very, very small percentage of the time a game lasts.
“Violence-Ball” might be good :)
I call it “Five Seconds of Action, followed by a minute of standing around” ball.
BTW, Edit to add ... my purpose in posting this is to show that Sweden is carrying on as normal despite the Coronavirus pandemic.
They are hoping that their “Herd Immunity” strategy in handling this disease will work better than a total lockdown.
I personally feel though that a huge sports gathering is a bit much, but who knows? It might be a deliberate attempt at infecting young people who tend to attend these events and who tend to be asymptomatic after infection, in order to achieve their goal.
We used to have “chicken pox” parties in our neighborhood when I was growing up, where neighborhood parents send their kids to the home of a kid with chicken pox so that they would be infected while young instead of later in life, so that they will eventually achieve natural immunity.
This is what Sweden is hoping to achieve.
Seems like the European soccer league canceled all their matches due to COVID-19. Sweden didn't shut down like everyone else, and continued to play (Svenska Cupen).
When the eventual Swedish championship team is crowned, they will have no one to play for the World Cup.
I proclaim Team Sweden the world champions!

LOL
Leave my love life out of this!!
I’m not 25 anymore. :)
That was not lost on me. But as is the case with more than a few threads...people seem to drift into other conversations :)
They postponed it but they are still Way Ahead of us.
I don’t know if there will be an NFL season this year in the usual sense.
I’m sure the pre season games will be called off.
We really need to start using stats to make decisions.
What are the odds that a healthy person under 50 will get this AND get VERY sick from it.
i have no idea what that number is.
I’m not even asking for the odds of dying. Just getting very sick.

Did the parents that didn’t have chicken pox as children send their kids to these parties? What might be the secondary impact of forced coronavirus? Adults suffering today from shingles may not look back so fondly on these parties.
Mexico City is way ahead of Sweden—no Fearpers there:

What part of Mexico are you in at this time?
RE: What part of Mexico are you in at this time?
I’m not in Mexico. I just posted the image from Twitter :)
Edit to add, the caption on the Twitter image says this in Spanish:
Metro Pantitlán hoy a las 18:30 hrs.
Those pics are disturbing. They have “this ain’t over” written all over them.
Never thought I’d see the cucked Swedes show more balls than us. Hail Sweden for refusing to let what is nothing but a bad flu destroy their way of life.
Sweden’s corona stats are not far from ours in US. https://virusncov.com/
