On May 27, NASA will once again launch American astronauts on American rockets from American soil!.... NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine
NASA astronauts Robert Behnken, 48, and Douglas Hurley, 52, will be flying on SpaceXs Crew Dragon spacecraft to the International Space Station for an extended stay, the agency announced.
The spacecraft is scheduled to lift off atop SpaceXs Falcon 9 rocket at 4:32 p.m. EDT from Launch Complex 39A in Floridathe same Kennedy Space Center launchpad that was used by the shuttle Atlantis in July 2011, which was the final mission of the Space Shuttle program.
Astronauts have not launched into orbit from the United States since the NASAs Space Shuttle Program retired in 2011. Since then, the United States has been paying Russia to carry astronauts to the space station, while private companies such as SpaceX were developing space travel and related technologies.

Regards,
Yeah, ONLY 9 years. Disgraceful. But, wishing them the best.
Nope...NOT “Trump effect”. SpaceX’s contract to develop manned “to-orbit” capability much pre-dates Trump’s tenure as president.
They haven’t actually taught English in public schools for more than a generation and spell-check has made it worse.

The Russian capsule is a sardine can. The SpaceX capsule is designed to carry seven, but will only carry a maximum of four. It’s very roomy and modern by comparison.
It’s about time. Retiring the shuttle is one more thing that POS obamanation should swing for.
Ive gotta be out of your mind to get on a Space X rocket with all the issues theyve had. JMO.
You might want to look at the names of the writer and the ownership of the paper. Looks like a Vietnamese woman married to a Chinese spouse, writing for a paper controlled by anti-Chicom Falun Gong Chinese.
Now, what were you saying about Americans?
Shameful that this great nation went more than a week without the capability to transport humans into space.
Remember the 'jokes' about riding a potential bomb built on the lowest bid? Remember the Columbia and Challenger disasters? Any new tech is failure prone but if no new efforts are made, no progress is realized! As for SpaceX, look at how well rival Boeing's initial orbit test went (badly)!
Oh no. Corona in space. Paging Mel Brooks.
Launching two astronauts into space. The Gemini program did that over 50 years ago.
What issues are you talking about? They had a problem during escape system testing which they corrected followed by a successful full up launch test. They lost one engine during the 5th launch of a booster but the launch still completed the mission. Boeing flubbed a launch of Starliner and damned near lost the spacecraft. Spacex hasn’t screwed up a launch in almost 5 years.
The shuttle was an overpriced, maintenance heavy, crew killer and I would have retired it long before Obama was elected.
The point is this is back in the US instead of russia doing it.
Thank you....
